On the evening of February 1, the new national style immersive acrobatic show "Journey to the West: Wukong" was performed at the Guangzhou IN Theater, with continuous applause, laughter and cheers, which received praise from a group of famous artists and literature lovers, ushering in a good start to the New Year. The show will run until February 5.
The play takes "real growth" as the theme of the performance, explores the new interpretation of Chinese classic mythology**, and tells the story of Sun Wukong who has been studying for more than ten years and has been thoroughly understanding the wonderful principles and mastering magical powers, and has been repeatedly frustrated due to ignorance and arrogance, and gradually understands himself in the constant getting along with others and friction, and understands the true meaning of growth.
The show breaks the traditional relationship between spectators and performers, and integrates modern stage technology with acrobatics, dance, stunt movements, puppets and other art performance forms by extending the comprehensive performance space of the theater, creating a real and illusory sensory experience, immersing the audience in the romantic and fantasy mythological world.
In terms of stage design and costume modeling, "Journey to the West: Wukong" tries to explore more possibilities and innovations in the visual design of the national style, crosses the dimensional wall, and collides the modern texture with the oriental charm, rock and electronic music, and the two-dimensional national tide, further enhancing the creativity and sensory experience impact of visual design, so that more young audiences can fall in love with acrobatic art and feel the power and beauty of Chinese acrobatics.
Journey to the West: Wukong is produced by Wu Zhengdan, general manager of Guangzhou Acrobatic Art Theater, and invites Guo Hongbo, director of Shanghai Dramatic Art Center, who is known as "good at using minimalist space to restore the audience's infinite imagination and accurately grasp the stage space and body language", as the chief director, and joins hands with outstanding young artists such as Lin Wensi, Fu Xiao, Chen Lu, Li Tingyi, Wang Xiaoyan, etc., to show the unique stage charm through new performing arts and dramatic technological means.
Through nearly 20 kinds of super shocking and difficult physical performances, the whole play interprets the supernatural powers and classic plots such as 72 changes, somersaulting clouds, dragon palace treasure hunting, and havoc in the heavenly palace, showing the broad space for the development of Guangzhou acrobatics in the new era, realizing creative transformation and innovative development, and leading the new trend of performing arts in Guangzhou.
It is worth mentioning that the "Lifting Soft Steel Wire" in the play is a gold medal program of the Guangzhou Acrobatic Troupe, and has won the "Golden Clown" award, the highest award in the world for acrobatics. The actor Tang Zhe, who plays the Monkey King, has won major awards such as the "French Republic ** Award", known as the "Oscar of the Acrobatic World", and the "Golden Chrysanthemum Award" of the National Acrobatics Competition.
