Mexico City News: According to foreign media reports, on February 5, local time, López, Mexico, who has only 8 months left in office, proposed a comprehensive constitutional reform plan, involving justice, elections, pensions and environmental regulations.

Reuters reported that it was Mexico's Constitution Day, and López proposed 20 reform plans in a speech in the capital, including cutting the number of members of Congress, electing judges by direct voting, reducing spending on political campaigns and political parties, raising the minimum wage, banning fracking technology for oil and gas and open-pit mining, and increasing scholarships for poor children.

Mexico will hold elections in June 2024. Reuters pointed out that López's National Regeneration Movement party and its allies did not win two-thirds of the seats in Mexico's parliament, so it is impossible to amend the constitution. But the plan he proposed could shape an important topic of debate during the country's elections.

According to an analysis by the Associated Press, López's move also contains the intention of "paving the way" for Claudia Hinbaum, the candidate of the National Regeneration Movement Party. He may hope to lure voters to vote for Hinbaum by promising reforms and support the National Regeneration Movement party to win more than two-thirds of the seats in parliament.

Bloomberg, citing analysts, said that López was an "excellent political strategist." At present, the candidates of the various parties in Mexico have not yet clearly put forward their election platforms and slogans, and López announced the reform plan at this time, not only to show off himself, but also to lead Hinbaum's campaign with his own policy ideas.
