Malaysia's former finance minister appeared in court on Monday (January 29) to plead not guilty to failing to comply with the Anti-** Commission's circular instructions to declare assets.
The judge granted Dyne RM280,000 (S$79,000) bail pending trial, without having to surrender his passport.
Malaysiakini reported that Dyne was in a wheelchair and accompanied by his wife Naima and son to the Kuala Lumpur Ground Court on Monday. According to the complaint, Dyne failed to comply with the MACC Act and failed to truthfully declare its assets, including 38 companies, 25 land parcels and properties, seven luxury cars, and two investment** accounts, when filing statutory documents on December 13 and 14 last year.
Judge Azullah granted Dyne a bail of RM280,000 with no other bail conditions attached, taking into account Dyne's medical condition.
If convicted, the 85-year-old faces up to five years in prison and a fine of RM100,000.
On January 23, Naima also pleaded not guilty to charges of failing to comply with MACC's notice to declare assets under his name. Judge Azulla granted her bail of RM250,000 but ordered her to hand over her passport until the case was concluded.
