Changing jobs is undoubtedly an important decision in the course of career development. It is not only related to personal career planning, but also involves many considerations such as salary, working environment, and career development prospects. Especially in the annual Golden Three and Silver Four, that is, March and April, these two months are considered to be the best period for people in the workplace to change jobs. So, how to get off to a good start in this peak period of job hopping, seize the opportunity, and get a satisfying new job? Here are some of my personal analyses and recommendations.
First and foremost, preparation is the key to a successful job change. In the first phase of the job-hopping timeline, i.e., mid-February to the end of February, you should start preparing your resume. At this stage, you need to sort out your past work content and write a resume according to the requirements of the job description (JD). At the same time, you will also need to prepare a bank of interview questions so that you can handle them in future interviews.
Next, enter the centralized delivery stage. From late February to early April, you should start submitting your resume. It is best to choose the delivery time from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. from Monday to Thursday, or from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., because these two time slots are the most likely time for HR to review resumes. The delivery channel can be a company**, job search**, or through internal referral, etc.
Then, it's time to get to the interview stage. From the end of February to the end of March, you should choose 3 to 4 companies with low intent for interviews, and schedule 2 to 3 interviews per week. Through these interviews, you can summarize common interview questions, improve your interview skills, and adapt to the rhythm of the interview, so as to improve the interview pass rate.
The formal interview period is from late March to late April. At this stage, you should choose 2 to 3 medium-minded companies and 2-3 high-intent companies for interviews. Your goal is to get as many offers as possible so that you can use the offers you already get to negotiate for a higher salary increase and a position that is more in line with your direction.
The offer acceptance period is from late April to early May. At this stage, you should conduct 2 to 3 rounds of salary negotiations, considering factors such as performance appraisal, welfare development, five insurances and one housing fund. Again, your goal is to get as many offers as possible in order to be in a good position in the negotiations.
Finally, there's the onboarding phase. By the beginning of May, you should have completed all the interviews and negotiations, received a satisfactory offer, and are ready to start your new working life.
Overall, job hopping is a process that requires careful planning and preparation. You need to have a clear understanding of your career plan, an in-depth understanding of the market, and a sufficient grasp of interview skills in order to grasp the opportunity in the process of changing jobs and get a satisfactory new job. At the same time, job hopping is also a process of both risks and opportunities, and you need to have enough courage and determination to keep moving forward on the road of your career.
