Four reading crises for the Chinese

Mondo Social Updated on 2024-02-01

The masses are those who read no more than 5 books a year. The French writer Charles Danziger's words are rather harshBut it speaks to the fact that reading is not an easy task.

Some data show that the average Chinese read only 07 copies! Another data is more than 07 is better, but less than 5.

Today's Chinese pay more and more attention to practical interests, material needs, and desires, but their spiritual life is becoming less and less, and their reading level is getting lower and lower. In the long run, the harm is unimaginable. From personal achievement and family harmony to national progress and civilization, it can be seriously hindered.

Why is this happening? What's wrong with Chinese reading?

Chen Pingyuan, a professor of liberal arts at Peking University, may be the best answer. He believes that the reading level of Chinese people has fallen into four crises:

Shallow thinking

Chen Pingyuan believes that the ancients could concentrate on one point to one scripture for a month or a year, and constantly dialogue with each other, and consider each word by word. Although contemporary people may have more common sense than the ancients, due to the reality and their own compromises, there is a serious lack of time for thinking and pondering, resulting in more and more scattered thinking, more and more shallow thinking, and serious lack of ability to distinguish between good and bad, beautiful and ugly, good and evil.

Expression fragmentation

Chen Pingyuan believes that contemporary people attach too much importance to the breadth of knowledge and ignore the depth of thinking. Weibo, for example, is a great misleading and mutilating writer who is addicted to writing a few witticisms, but it is difficult to write a complete article. Everyone can say a lot of things in a leap, but the effort to talk deeply is becoming more and more scarce.

Memory is weakened

Chen Pingyuan believes that reading has been replaced by retrieval, which has led to the decline of contemporary people's memory. In the past, people learned knowledge and always tried desperately to memorize something, but now there is no such motivation, people give their memory to mobile phones and computers, and all their knowledge to databases. This is essentially an extremely dangerous phenomenon, if one day, the whole world loses power and the Internet due to war or some uncontrollable factors, and the entire human race will go back hundreds of years.

Reading utilitarianization

Chen Pingyuan believes that under the influence of tradition, to this day, "the book has its own **** house" and "the book has its own Yan Ruyu", which is still the main driving force for many people to read hard, and utilitarian reading is the mainstream of Chinese reading at present. However, it is too narrow to understand "studying" only as getting a degree, learning skills, and seeking a career, and we must understand that this is not the whole meaning of reading.

Too many people are poisoned by the standard answers of textbooks and lose their interest and ability to read, so they don't buy books and don't read them, and they can't read new things from the classics they have been familiar with since they were young, and they can't find the right place for Chinese literature in the world and integrate with world civilization. These have become the pain of most Chinese people!

As a senior disciple of Wang Yao, the founder of modern Chinese literature research, Chen Pingyuan specializes in the things we have read and the problems we have faced since childhood, and prescribes the right medicine and comprehensive treatment

He has written five or six books on the method and pleasure of reading, such as "Inside and Outside the Book", "The Landscape of Reading", "Reading is a Fun Thing", etc.;

He has more works on literary history and cultural history, such as "In the Collision of Eastern and Western Cultures", "History of Chinese Prose", "The Dream of Literati and Chivalry through the Ages", etc.;

Many of his works have been translated and published in English, Korean, and Russian, and his cultural influence has spread far abroad.

The scores of his works are basically above 8 points, many of them are above 9 points, and all of them are of ** quality, so that some book friends praise: "You can always trust Chen Pingyuan".

Reading is a way of life, it is commonplace, but it is notthan important. To enhance reading interest, improve reading level, and highlight cultural taste, Chen Pingyuan's books are undoubtedly one of the best choices. Unfortunately, there are more than 40 of his books, which have been published separately over the years, and it is really difficult to collect.

To this end, I especially recommend the most complete collection of Chen Pingyuan's works so far - "Chen Pingyuan Anthology", which is published by the Commercial Press, with a total of 24 volumes, including 44 kinds of books, which is a summary of Chen Pingyuan's thinking and research for most of his life, and is also a teaching to readers.

This set of books can be called a reading lesson dedicated to contemporary Chinese people, a "powerful medicine" to improve the level of readingï¼›Cloth hardcover, elegant and simple, just like Mr. Chen's personality; It also contains Mr. Chen Pingyuan's autograph and seal, which is rare and has a rare opportunityClick on the product card below to collect it with one click.
