Recently, various places in China have frequently launched anti-corruption feature films, revealing the details of corruption, which has attracted widespread attention. The corruption cases behind these anti-corruption films are produced by the Hunan Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision of the Communist Party of China in cooperation with local radio and television stations. Hunan Province launched a TV feature film titled "Loyalty and Betrayal - 2023 Hunan Zhengfeng Anti-Corruption Warning Record" on January 31, continuing to reveal the corruption plot of the local **, which is the second consecutive year that Hunan Province has launched this series of anti-corruption films.
Different from the high-level "big tiger" in the anti-corruption film launched by the Communist Party of China's ** Commission for Discipline Inspection, the Hunan anti-corruption film mainly focuses on lower-level local officials, but the amount of corruption involved is also huge, and the methods are also eye-catching, which has attracted widespread attention. Tang Zuoguo, former deputy secretary and vice chairman of the CPPCC in Changde, Hunan Province, was exposed to be "overly drunk" in the film, and set up a special room for high-end wine at home, in which high-end wine filled three trucks.
Cao Jiongfang, the former secretary of the Xiangtan Municipal Party Committee of Hunan Province, also admitted in the film that in order to pursue official promotion, he still illegally financed and borrowed debts when he knew that Xiangtan's ** debt was at risk, which eventually led to 43.5 billion yuan of illegal financing and 33 unfinished engineering projects. This is the second time Cao Jiongfang has appeared in the same series of anti-corruption films**, and in the first**, his wife revealed that she had burned unexplained foreign currency in her home as a secret between husband and wife before she felt that she might be investigated.
In addition, the Hunan anti-corruption film also reported the corruption of others, such as Long Xiaohua, the former governor of Xiangxi Prefecture, and Yuan Yanwen, the former director of the Hunan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
Hunan is not the first province to launch a local anti-corruption film this year. After the Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China launched its annual anti-corruption feature film on January 6 this year, many provinces, including Hainan, Shanxi, and Guangxi, have successively launched local versions of anti-corruption feature films, revealing the details of the case.
It has become a common practice for the Discipline Inspection Commission of the Communist Party of China to broadcast an annual anti-corruption feature film before the plenary session every year. However, this year's anti-corruption film not only focuses on high-level**, but also "fly greed and ant corruption" in some places. This may be related to the fact that the CCP repeatedly emphasized last year that it is necessary to strictly investigate "fly greed and ant corruption". Last year, the Politburo of the Communist Party of China held a meeting to plan the anti-corruption work in 2024, emphasizing the need to promote the anti-corruption struggle in depth and seriously investigate and deal with "fly corruption and ant corruption". * At the Third Plenary Session of the ** Commission for Discipline Inspection in January this year, the general secretary also made it clear that "the 'fly greed and ant corruption' should be punished".
Therefore, the initiative of various localities to launch anti-corruption films is not only a response to the anti-corruption policy, but also a way to show the achievements of local anti-corruption and demonstrate the determination of anti-corruption. However, if the anti-corruption is not from the construction of the system, but to try to attract the most attention through fancy anti-corruption films, the effect of curbing corruption may be limited, and may even lead to public scrutiny fatigue, which has the opposite effect. Therefore, in the anti-corruption work, it is necessary to continue to make substantial progress in deepening structural reform and construction, so as to more effectively curb the occurrence of corruption.
