A small and inconspicuous town that hides China s largest thermal power plant

Mondo Social Updated on 2024-02-01

Did you know that the world's largest thermal power plant is in?Do you know the scale of the world's largest thermal power station? In this article, I will take you to meet her --- China's Datang Tuoketuo Power Plant. Let's get to know her together!

What is thermal power generation?

The so-called thermal power generation generally refers to the use of heat energy generated by the combustion of combustibles to heat water, so that the water becomes high-temperature and high-pressure water vapor, and then the water vapor pushes the generator to generate electricity. Power plants that use combustibles as fuel are collectively referred to as thermal power plants.

Tuoketo Thermal Power Plant

China's Datang International Tuoketo Power StationTuoketuo Power Plant is the world's largest thermal power plant. Known as a supercarrier in a thermal power station! The full name of Datang Tuoketuo Power Plant is Inner Mongolia Datang International Tuoketuo Power Generation Co., Ltd.

The power plant, located in Tuoketuo County, Baotou City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China, is invested and built by Datang Group, a subsidiary of China National Coal Industry Group, and it has attracted widespread attention around the world.

In November 1995, she was established in Hohhot, and the company's capital was invested and injected by three shareholders: Datang International Power Generation Co., Ltd., Beijing Energy Investment (Group) Co., Ltd., and Inner Mongolia Mengdian Huaneng Thermal Power Co., Ltd. It is worth mentioning that the Tuoketuo Power Plant has a unique location and resource advantages, 12km away from the Yellow River water intake Putanjiao in the southwest, and only 50km away from the large coalfield in Zhunger in the south.

The Inner Mongolia Datang Tuoketuo Power Plant project is divided into five phases, and it took 22 years to complete the investment and construction. The installed capacity of the entire power plant includes 8 units of 600,000 kilowatts, 2 units of 660,000 kilowatts, and 2 units of 300,000 kilowatts, with a capacity of 6.72 million kilowatts.

In 2016 and 2017, the five phases of the two units were also put into operation for power generation, and all the units were "put into operation, stable and profitable", with an annual power generation capacity of more than 35 billion kilowatt hours, making it the world's largest thermal power plant worthy of the name.

On February 25, 2017, Unit 10 of the fifth phase of the Tuoketuo Power Plant successfully passed the 168-hour trial operation, and the two domestic 660,000 kW ultra-supercritical units of the fifth phase of the expansion project were all put into operation. Since then, the capacity of the Tuoketo Power Plant has reached 67GW, becoming the world's largest thermal power plant.

Tuoketo Thermal Power Plant - Green Thermal Power Plant

Datang Tuoketuo Power Plant adopts advanced desulfurization, denitrification and dust removal technologies, and transforms the ultra-low emission of the whole plant units to make its emissions meet China's national and environmental protection standards.

They upgraded the No. 3 and No. 4 subcritical wet-cooling units with high efficiency subcritical, and the coal consumption for power supply was reduced by 14 grams after the transformation.

Among them, the centralized large-scale power transmission technology, the comprehensive upgrading and transformation of high-efficiency subcritical units, and the implementation of peak condenser technology transformation of air-cooled units have reached the world's leading level. And the first light-coal coupling, greatly reducing the power consumption rate of the plant.

With the continuous change of the global energy structure and the development of clean energy, the status of thermal power plants is gradually declining. However, as one of the traditional energy methods, thermal power generation still plays an important role in many countries and regions. In the future, we need to continue to explore and promote clean energy technologies to promote energy transition and sustainable development.
