According to Sport, Crystal Palace have agreed to sign Adam Wharton from Blackburn Rovers. The 19-year-old will now travel to London for a medical and complete the transfer for a fee of around €26 million, including add-ons. Wharton had an excellent debut season at Blackburn Rovers and he was one of the best young players in the Championship.

It was a major win for Crystal Palace, as the talented midfielder has been on the radar of a number of Premier League sides, including Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea. Wharton has been on the radar of several of the Premier League's top teams this season, but now it looks like he is destined to join Crystal Palace. Selhurst Park have been known for developing young talent in recent seasons, with Wilfried Zaha, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Marc Giashi, Eberech Eze and Michael Olise all making their mark in west London.

Wharton is the sixth-most valuable under-21 player in the English Championship.

Wharton has earned praise for his outstanding performances at Blackburn Rovers this season. The midfielder is almost a permanent member of the squad, making 29 appearances, scoring two goals and providing three assists. However, Wharton remained on the bench for Monday night's FA Cup game against Wrexham, suggesting his departure may be imminent. The England Under-20 international's market value soared from €2.5 million to €10 million in 2023, making him the sixth-most valuable under-21 player in the second tier of English football.

Crystal Palace will pay more than €10 million for his services, which could well see Blackburn set a record all-time transfer fee, surpassing the transfer fee paid by Damian Duff to Chelsea in 2003. Daniel Bush, TransferMarkt's UK country manager, believes Wharton is an excellent deal for Crystal Palace. "Wharton is expected to be a well-rounded midfielder in the Premier League and future national team," Bush said. 'He's a very smart player, with great technique and a lot of vision. This, combined with his work ethic and physicality, makes him an excellent signing for any top league team. ”
