Kong Lingkan, a native of Shanxi Taikoo, was born in 1916. His father Kong Xiangxi was the Minister of Finance of the National People's Republic of China at the time, and his mother Song Ailing was the sister of Song Meiling. Coming from a wealthy family, he studied at St. John's University in Shanghai, and later served as an executive director of the ** Trust Board.
During the Anti-Japanese War, Kong Lingkan engaged in financial activities in Hong Kong and Malaysia. After the outbreak of the Pacific War, Kong Lingkan returned to Chongqing.
In the U.S.-Japan Battle of Midway, the United States was in dire need of a large number of bristles. Kong Lingkan bought bristles in Yunnan, Guangxi and other places, and clashed with Song Ziwen. Song Ziwen is the son of Song Jiashu and the elder brother of Song Meiling.

Du Yuesheng's son, Du Weiping, was arrested by Chiang Ching-kuo during the "Tiger Fight" operation in Shanghai. In order to protect his beloved son, Du Yuesheng took the initiative to report Kong Lingkan's illegal behavior to Jiang Jingguo, which led to the seizure of Yangzi Company and the detention of Kong Lingkan.
This made Song Ailing panic and could only seek Song Meiling's help. Under the mediation of Soong Meiling, Chiang Kai-shek ordered the release of Kong Lingkan. Since then, the relationship between Kong Lingkan and Chiang Ching-kuo has become strained, and the two have never been in contact again.
