At present, the contract system of the CBA league is divided into five types of contracts, including four types of contracts, which can be summarized in one word for their most significant characteristics: Class A contracts are "rookie contracts", Class C contracts are "regular contracts", Class D contracts are "maximum salary contracts", and Class E contracts are "veteran contracts".
There is only a B contract, and there has always been a veil of mystery, which seems to be a "transition contract" from rookie to regular, with a long term and a small income (it is said that Liu Chuanxing fell out with the Qingdao team because of this), but in fact,There is the only "hidden incentive clause" in the five types of contracts in the B type contract, which, once triggered, can significantly increase revenue!
What is the trigger for this "hidden incentive clause"? There are three of them:
More than 80% of the regular season appearances (including this number);
Average playing time per game: 21 minutes or more;
Represent the participating club in the playoffs.
In layman's terms, it is a B-contract player who has at least become the main rotation in the playoff team and guarantees a fairly high attendance rate!
So, once triggered, how big is the benefit? The answer is that it is possible to double the salary!
In the "2023-2024 CBA League Player Draft, Salary Cap, Hiring and Trading Management Regulations", once you choose to use the Category B player incentive clause, you will be given a one-time performance salary for a single season based on this basis, and the reward amount will be 50%-100% of the player's base salary in the current season (club option), and the reward amount will not be included in the salary cap!
Of course, not every B player who meets the criteria will be incentivized, depending on whether this clause is included in the contract when the contract is signed with the club. For clubs, the benefit is undoubtedly to reduce the pressure on the salary cap, and for good B contract players, it can be used to make up for the lack of wages; But for players, if they accept this clause on the premise of "low salary", it is undoubtedly a high risk, and the two conditions of playing time and number of games are completely in the hands of the club.
Therefore, the effectiveness of this "hidden incentive clause" depends on whether it is used as a means to compensate for low salaries, or to give incentives and rewards to players. How do you rate this clause?
