On the occasion of the 130th anniversary of his birth, I watched the key play launched by the State Administration of Radio and Television to commemorate this great figure - "Ask the Boundless". This epic TV series, with its 32 episodes, vividly and three-dimensionally recreates the historical picture of the Great Revolution. It not only focuses on the glorious image of young people, but also artistically presents a series of major historical events in that period with delicate artistic techniques.
I also learned about the history of the Great Revolution in my university studies and in my subsequent reading of modern Chinese history. But at that time, the understanding was point-like, conceptual, and conclusive.
For me, "Ask the Boundless" is not only a TV series, but also a vivid historical textbook. Every plot and every detail seems to tell us that history is not simply black and white, but full of blood, passion and struggle. "Ask the Boundless" presents a vivid historical group portrait for the audience.
Recently, I have also immersed myself in other historical TV series, such as "Jinggangshan" and "Eastern Zhou Kingdoms: Spring and Autumn Chapter". These works also use vivid images to show the rich connotation of historical figures and events. They make my understanding of history more three-dimensional, concrete and vivid, as if I have personally encountered the grandeur of those historical moments.
However, we must understand that the history that really happened in history is the first history, and the first history is the history that cannot be restored. The history that people know from historical documents and some historical books and cultural relics is the second history, and the second history can only be close to the first history.
There is no substitute for the truth of history. The history presented by historical documents, ancient books and cultural relics is the second history, which is as close as possible to the first history, but cannot fully restore its true appearance. Historical TV dramas, although they can artistically reproduce historical figures and events, must contain a certain amount of fiction. Therefore, if we want to have a deeper understanding of the true face of history, we still need to gain a more comprehensive understanding by reading historical classics and researching from various sources.
Excellent historical TV series can indeed help us understand history vividly and improve our interest in history. However, in order to truly grasp the development of history, we still need to read it in a down-to-earth manner and conduct research in many ways.
