On January 29, 2024, the first meeting of the National Steering Committee for Graduate Education in Translation and Interpretation (hereinafter referred to as the "Education Committee") was held in Beijing. Yu Tao, chairman of the Education and Guidance Committee and deputy director of CIPG, attended and presided over the meeting.
The on-site meeting of the conference held a special discussion on the setting of translation blogs. The meeting pointed out that the Academic Degrees Committee recently issued a notice on the authorization and review of new doctoral and master's degrees, which marks the official start of the training of doctoral degrees in translation. Translation is an important work to promote exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese and foreign civilizations, and a doctorate in translation should be a high-end translator who promotes the construction of a Chinese and foreign discourse system and serves the cause of international communication. The Education and Guidance Committee should give full play to its guiding role in the cultivation of translation talents, guide all units applying for professional and doctoral degrees to further clarify the training objectives, refine the training plan, and conscientiously do a good job in the application for professional degrees.
The meeting also studied and made arrangements for the preparation of the 2024 Annual Conference of Graduate Education in Translation, the special verification of the authorization points for the master's degree in translation in 2023, the construction of case databases, the construction of teaching materials, and the construction of internship bases.
Jiang Feng, former Secretary of the Party Committee of Shanghai Foreign Chinese University, Yang Jianping, Director of the Personnel Department of CIPG, Jiang Hongxin, Secretary of the Party Committee of Hunan Normal University, Ren Wen, Dean of the School of Advanced Translation of Beijing University of Foreign Chinese, Zhao Junfeng, Director of the Translation Research Center of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, and other vice chairmen, Zhang Ailing, Secretary General of the Education and Guidance Committee and Dean of the School of Advanced Translation of Shanghai Foreign Chinese University, and Huang Youyi, Director of the Expert Committee of the Education and Guidance Committee and former deputy director and editor-in-chief of CIPG, attended the meeting as observers.
