There is an inspiring and inspiring force here, and the teachers of Western University will dedicate themselves to the education of the motherland with enthusiasmIn this issue of "Jun Shi My Teacher" character column, I will walk with you into the story of Fu Yunlin, a national famous forestry and grass teacher and professor of the College of Forestry, who got in touch with mahogany, guarded the ancient rhyme, and inherited the culture.
"A thousand years of waiting for a tree, a tree for a thousand years", in Western University, there is such a teacher, who is deeply involved in the field of mahogany culture. He is not only the main teacher of the national excellent course "Wood Science", but also the main teacher of the national first-class undergraduate course online first-class course "Mahogany Culture".
Walking into his office, you can see all kinds of utensils made of mahogany, such as mahogany tables, mahogany pen holders, and mahogany bracelets. He is the National Famous Teacher of Forestry and Grass, Professor of Forestry College, Fu Yunlin.
"When I first saw mahogany, there was light in my eyes!”
Whenever the mahogany culture is mentioned, Fu Yunlin will proudly introduce it to everyone:
In our country, mahogany culture has a very long history, from the Jin Dynasty to the present has a history of more than 1,700 years, deeply loved, whether it is texture, color, meaning, or in the production process is very good. Furniture and musical instruments made of mahogany will not decay for thousands ......of years”
Fu Yunlin's first school encounter with mahogany. The colors of the mahogany are beautiful, and the patterns and textures of different shapes have their own characteristics, some resemble mountain peaks, some resemble water droplets, and the longitudinal sections, cross-sections, and oblique sections will be presented differently, which will not make people feel boring.
The fragrance of mahogany is full of flavors, and it can make people feel relaxed and happy when they smell it. It was the unique charm of this mahogany that attracted him deeply.
After that, Fu Yunlin continued his postgraduate studies under the tutelage of Professor Xu Feng, a well-known wood expert. Professor Xu has a deep knowledge in mahogany research, and on weekdays, Professor Xu imparts mahogany knowledge to Fu Yunlin, and the two often ** mahogany culture and go to different places to do research.
In the process, Fu Yunlin gained a deeper understanding of how to identify and evaluate the value of rosewood. Under the influence of his mentor, the connection between Fu Yunlin and Mahogany has become deeper and closer.
The light in his eyes will eventually shine on the field he loves when he first sees him, and since 2007, Fu Yunlin, who has participated in the work, began to write a monograph on mahogany. He said:
I continue to collect a large number of mahogany specimens, study the macro structure and micro structure of mahogany, as well as the technical value, aesthetic value and historical and cultural value behind it, I just hope that more people can understand this rare culture!”
As the work progressed, Fu Yunlin found that only forestry students and a few people interested in rosewood knew the ins and outs of rosewood culture, and most people's understanding of it only stayed at the visual senses. At this time, a seed that pushes mahogany culture to more people is quietly sprouting in Fu Yunlin's heart.
"Times are different, and I have to make it 'talk'!”
Fu Yunlin recalled that at that time, there was no course in the country that could fully summarize and interpret the rosewood culture, and if you wanted to understand this culture, you often had to search for information from many aspects, which was time-consuming and laborious. Therefore, at the beginning of the "Redwood Culture" course, the lack of teaching materials became the first dilemma for Fu Yunlin and his team to break through.
How can design make culture "come alive"?Fu Yunlin is based on the team's scientific research achievements accumulated over the years and the experience of building a rich and powerful wood science courseAnalyze and refine the essence one by one, transform the results and experience into teaching resources, and let the culture "speak for itself". He said:
Mahogany culture began in the Jin Dynasty and has a long history, and consulting historical materials is an indispensable part of making teaching materials. We have consulted a large number of historical documents and classical books, and historical documents are rarely available in electronic versions, so we need to use special tools and equipment such as readers and magnifying glasses. ”
Obscure language makes writing more complicated and difficult. In order to obtain more accurate first-hand information, at that time, Fu Yunlin often worked in the data room from morning to night, and it was common to stay up all night. Patience, perseverance and expertise helped him and his team successfully complete this critical foundational work.
At the same time, Fu Yunlin and his team visited different museums in various places, including the Palace Museum, China Rosewood Museum, Suzhou Museum, Shanghai Museum, etc., and did a lot of research, and also humbly sought professional help from scholars at home and abroad who studied mahogany culture. Fu Yunlin said with emotion
I remember that at that time, whenever we saw wood, we would look at it a few more times and wonder if it was mahoganyWhat kind of it?What kind of form? How about the pattern carved on it?And strive to be able to take photos and record them as some ** on the teaching materials.
withstood loneliness, endured suffering, and worked hard to live up to it, and the compilation of "Redwood Culture" was successfully completed. Turn the pages of the book, concise and clear explanations, vivid pictures, easy-to-understand words and sentences, and virtual interactionMore and more students have felt the elegance and enduring value of mahogany, as well as the excellent traditional Chinese culture and craftsman spirit conveyed behind the mahogany.
"On the 'means', together to pass on the culture!”
Mahogany is China's intangible cultural heritage, mahogany furniture uses mortise and tenon structure to connect different parts, showing the ingenuity and exquisite skills of Chinese workers, and mahogany culture is also well-known in the world. Professor Li Jian, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, once commented that the mahogany culture course is a course that is conducive to college students to enhance their cultural self-confidence, promote the spirit of craftsmen, and cultivate the spirit of dedication, lean and concentration.
With the compilation and improvement of teaching materials, mahogany culture is gradually entering the public eye, during which Fu Yunlin and his team have made a number of attempts:The use of modern information technology, virtual reality technology (VR), three-dimensional visualization technology and multi-interactive technology, 76 virtual experiments were made;At the same time,Digitize the specimens in the herbarium's collectionto obtain the digitization of morphological characteristics of forests and trees**. Fu Yunlin talked about his longing for the "going out" of mahogany culture:
Just like the craftsmanship spirit conveyed in the mahogany production process, we will add more professional, story-based and interesting content to the transfer of knowledge, and gradually promote the spread and inheritance of mahogany culture to Southeast Asia and then to the world. ”
From the forestry professional course "Mahogany and Mahogany Furniture" in 2013 to the current general education course "Mahogany Culture", from sunrise to sunset, Fu Yunlin has injected a lot of effort. He said frankly that his original intention was to promote this excellent and unique traditional culture, so that more people could understand it and enhance cultural self-confidence.
Rooted in the front line of forestry education for nearly 20 years, Fu Yunlin adheres to the original intention of education, innovates teaching methods, and reaps the fruits of education.
Just like a hard-working forest ranger, he cares for and cultivates young students who are thriving in his own way, and strives to make them grow into high-quality forestry and grassland talents with all-round development of morality, intelligence, physical fitness, art and labor, and he dedicates his best years to the cause of education.
In the future, China's mahogany culture will also go from Guangxi University to the world as Fu Yunlin wishes.
