The sad years of the Vietnam War and perseverance
I grew up in a small village called Dawn Grass, where the green mountains and green waters seem to be a paradise given by God. But it was all destroyed in a war, a scene I will never forget. In 1979, our army fought back in self-defense against Vietnam to defend the frontier. As the squad leader of the 345th Battalion of the 190th Artillery Regiment of the 2nd Infantry Division of the Vietnamese Army, I witnessed the cruelty and desolation of the war with my own eyes.
At that time, we were poorly equipped, tractors and artillery were outdated, spare parts were lacking. In peacetime maneuvers and wartime firefights, we felt very struggling. However, when war comes, we can only cry out in vain. On February 17, 1979, the war broke out, but it was not until the evening that we maneuvered from Zenglong Township to Nanqiang, and the road was full of obstacles and difficulties. After the preparation of the troops, it turned out that the number of shells became the primary issue of great concern. How many shells can be fired per day depends on the instructions of the military district. The battle became fiercer day by day, and the artillery support of the squadron was strong and powerful, clearing the way for their infantry to advance.
After holding out for 4 days in the area of Vijin and Tonghe in Tangtang City, our troops retreated to Banbai village in Jiafu Township. But the retreat was not easy, the squadron was on the other side of the river, and any move was clearly seen by them. The 23rd was a difficult day for our artillery to confront the infantry of the squadron. Faced with an emergency, the battalion headquarters quickly studied and made a decision: to fire with 85-mm cannons on high ground, and in the event of an attack by the squadron, to perform the tasks of supporting infantry in battle; If surrounded by a squadron, first remove the artillery latches, and then retreat back along the mountain path.
The battle lasted several hours, we had no personnel **, but the ferocity of our artillery ** forced the opposing side to hide on the other side of the bridge and not dare to risk attacking. It was not until the evening, when the situation on the battlefield became calm, that our troops withdrew the artillery from the battlefield and moved to the village of **. The fighting continued for another two weeks, but in the direction of Tangtang City-Baosheng County, the squadron had to stop at the north side of the Biendian Bridge and did not cross the Waibo River and advance further south.
I am well aware of the cruelty and ruthlessness of this war, but I also understand our mission. We are soldiers who defend our homeland and defend the borders of the motherland. In the face of enemy aggression, we must stand up and resolutely defend the dignity and territorial integrity of the motherland. I am proud to have been a part of this war, and even though it has caused us great pain and sacrifice, our victory will be remembered in the long history of history.
However, I am also deeply saddened by the destruction and suffering that war has caused to our homeland. Those innocent villagers, they have lost their homes, their loved ones, and their happy lives. I am well aware of the terrible and devastating power of war, but we must learn from history and cherish peace and life. May war never come again, and may peace last forever.
Looking back at history, we are well aware of the cruelty and ruthlessness of war, but we also understand our responsibility and mission. We have made great sacrifices on the road to defend our homeland, but our efforts and perseverance have paid off the victory of peace. Our motherland is now safe and stable, and our people live happily and happily, and this is where the meaning and value of our fight lies. May peace last forever, may our country prosper, and may our people be happy and well-being.
