On January 8, CCTV's "Rule of Law**" disclosed for the first time the details of the criminal group case led by Xi Mihua (Zhou Zhuohua) and Chen Ronglian, involving more than 300 billion yuan in gambling.
The report is titled "Zhou Zhuohua's Cross-border Gambling Crime Group Case", pointing out that Xi Mihua and other gangs use commissions and dividends as bait to lure others** and organize illegal acts of soliciting Chinese citizens to participate in cross-border online gambling. Data seized from 2015 to 2019 showed that illegal gambling exceeded more than 300 billion yuan, and the gang won more than 87 billion yuan.
The judge disclosed the criminal modus operandi of the gang, soliciting ** through the form of shares, luring gamblers to bet on illegal **, and the gang also evaded investigation by laundering money through underground banks.
Previously, Hong Kong media broke the news that the amount involved in Zhou Zhuohua's case exceeded 800 billion Hong Kong dollars, and the profit exceeded 20 billion Hong Kong dollars, while the 300 billion announced by CCTV is only the official domestic betting amount. The trial of Zhou Zhuohua began in September 2022, and the main culprit Xi Mihua was tried for 18 years and must pay 86HK$500 million. Xi Mihua's appeal in October 2023 was rejected, and in addition to the need to pay fines, Xi Mihua and nine others also spit out 25.5 billion Hong Kong dollars of illegal gains, which is twice the amount of the first-instance judgment.
Xi Mihua was still not convinced by the court's verdict, and wrote an open letter in December last year to "redress grievances".
In addition, Xi Mihua wrote a letter to his colleagues in June last year**, saying that he had learned to meditate cross-legged in prison every day, and had developed the habit of being smoke-free and alcohol-free, and had entered a second life. After Xi Mihua was imprisoned, he owed thousands of employees unpaid wages, and in his letters he asked his colleagues to go to the relevant departments to deal with them, and it seemed that he could not pay them back.
According to Hong Kong media, Xi Mihua's tens of billions of family properties have come to naught, and his wife Chen Huiling and her lover Mandy are selling real estate to pay off debts, and the mansion with more than 100 million yuan in Mandy's name has been recovered by He Youlong, the son of the gambling king, at the end of last year, and it is sold at a price lower than the market price.
Mrs. Chen Huiling is calm on the surface, but she also sells real estate in private, but it has not affected her and her children's lives for the time being, and she is as rich as ever.
The Xi Mihua case also brought out the cases of Chen Ronglian and Ji Xiaobo.
Chen Ronglian is the husband of actress An Yixuan, who was sentenced to 14 years in early 2023, and An Yixuan has always refused to respond to the matter.
In November last year, the court disclosed the case of Wu Peici's boyfriend Ji Xiaobo, who was characterized as the "head of the underworld forces" and his aunt Cui Limei was sentenced to eight years and six months and fined 200,000 yuan.
CCTV actually hammered Xi Mihua, Chen Ronglian and other criminal gangs in the report, but the sentence for Guan Ji Xiaobo has not yet been announced.
