Lockheed Martin has delivered the 75th APY-2 radar for the E-9D Advanced Hawkeye, according to Naval Technology Network on January 30.

Chandra Marshall, vice president of Lockheed Martin's radar and sensor systems business, emphasized the APY-9 radar's heritage, "As the primary sensor for the E-2D, the APY-9 radar has a long tradition of providing agile deterrence to enhanced aircraft. Our priority is to get our servicemen home safely, and the APY-9 sets the standard for all other AEW radars. ”

1.Eye of the fleet

The Advanced Hawkeye model is known as the "Eye of the Fleet" of the U.S. Navy. Its simultaneous surveillance capabilities in the air, on land, and at sea make it a pillar of protection for the United States and its allies.

According to GlobalData's Global Military Fixed-Wing Aircraft Market 2023-2033 report, in North America, the EC-37B and E-2D being purchased by the United States will account for a major share of the North American ISR aircraft market.

On-time delivery underscores Lockheed Martin's commitment to meeting the needs of the U.S. Navy. 80 of the 86 aircraft currently planned to fund are involved, and international interest from Japan and France further solidifies the global importance of the APY-9 radar.

2.Global demand and long-lasting production

The APY-9 radar, which is expected to be in production in the late 2020s and continue through the 2040s, is a mainstay of the modernization and support of airborne early warning capabilities.

The two-decade partnership between Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman on the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye exemplifies a commitment to providing joint forces and first responders with actionable data. Radar provides situational awareness, reducing the time between initial perception and active engagement. These radars are said to be deployed in different environments around the globe and are preferred by more than 45 countries.
