On the afternoon of January 19thLi Luming led a delegation to visit Politecnico di Milano(Politecnicodi Milano), in a meeting with Donatella Sceuto, Rector of Politecnico di Milano. The two sides reviewed the deep foundation of cooperation between the two universities, and focused on the future development of the Sino-Italian Design Innovation Base jointly built by the two universities. Giuliano Noci, Vice-Rector of Politecnico di Milano, and those in charge of the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Student Development Management participated in the discussion.
Li Luming said that Tsinghua University and Politecnico di Milano have cooperated in scientific research and education to build a platform for cultural and technological exchanges between China and Europe to help global development. The Sino-Italian Design Innovation Base is one of the important milestones in the cooperation between the two universities, witnessed by China and Italy's Mattarella. It is hoped that the two sides will continue to explore new areas of cooperation and more practical cooperation plans to inject new vitality into the strategic partnership between the two universities.
Xiuto said that the China-Italy Design Innovation Base has enhanced the level of cooperation between the two universities in the fields of talent training, joint scientific research, cultural exchanges, and industrial innovation. On the same day,Li Luming and his entourage visited the headquarters of the Organizing Committee of the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympicsto communicate with the head of the Department of Cultural Heritage, Iacopo Mazzetti. Li Luming introduced Tsinghua University's active efforts to serve and guarantee the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. He said that Tsinghua University organized 17 faculties and departments to participate in the key special project of "Science and Technology Winter Olympics", giving full play to the advantages of disciplines to provide scientific and technological support for the long-term benefits of the event itself and the region in the post-Winter Olympics period. More than 1,200 Tsinghua teachers and students participated in the volunteer service of the Winter Olympics, contributing to the smooth development of the event. Tsinghua University is willing to work closely with the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics Organizing Committee to share useful experiences and jointly explore the path of positive interaction between the Olympic Games and urban development.
