Liu Ning, secretary of the Guangxi Municipal Party Committee, said that the goal of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region is to continue to open up domestic and international markets to further help domestic and foreign business entities.

As an important coastal hinterland connecting the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the ASEAN region, Guangxi is a window to the outside world and has favorable conditions to build bridges between regions, Liu said at a conference on Monday.

If Guangxi wants to make a major development and breakthrough, it must greatly improve its business environment and make it easier to do business in the region, Liu said.

He said that in order to build itself into a place with easy access to the domestic and international markets, Guangxi must follow the international high-standard economic and trade rules and further promote investment, consumption, capital flows, personnel exchanges, and logistics.

Guangxi is working hard to build the infrastructure needed to connect the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area with the ASEAN region.

More than 3,000 construction workers did not even take a break during the Chinese New Year to build the Pinglu Canal, the flagship project of the new international land-sea corridor.

The corridor stretches from the Xijin Reservoir in Hengzhou City to the port of Qinzhou in southern Guangxi, where ships can reach the Beibu Gulf via the Qinjiang River, opening up a shorter route to the sea for Guangxi and the rest of southwest China.

According to local data, the total value between Guangxi and other RCEP member countries reached more than 390 billion yuan (US$54 billion) in 2023, a year-on-year increase of 237%。

Meanwhile, a total of 117 freight trains will travel between China and Vietnam via Guangxi in 2023.

Zou Zhanye, director of the Guangxi Industrial Park Reform and Development Office, said the region is building a more effective service platform for businesses, making it easier for them to invest and do business in the park.

According to local statistics, a total of 215 industrial parks have recently started construction, with a total investment of nearly 158.3 billion yuan.

Hou Gang, the mayor of Nanning, said the city had improved the mechanism for quickly dealing with corporate inquiries and requests.

Liu Tao, general manager of Huawei Guangxi, said that the company aims to make full use of its strengths in 5G, artificial intelligence and cloud computing to contribute to the construction of the China-ASEAN AI computing hub.
