Readers who follow me probably know that the previous series was called "Randomly Selecting a University to Talk about History Series", but recently some readers wanted me to talk about some specific universities, which is naturally still happy, so the name of the series has been adjusted a little.
My earliest impression of Guangxi Normal University probably came from the Guangxi Normal University Press, which is still very influential. Of course, our topic today is not a publishing house, so let's get to the point.
Guangxi Normal University is undoubtedly the most powerful normal college in Guangxi, with a history dating back to its establishment in 1932 when the Guangxi Normal College was established, which began in the spring of that year and officially opened in September or October at Guilin's Xilin Park (Yanshan Park).
Around 1936, when the various ideological struggles of the Guangxi Normal School became increasingly complicated, in June of that year, the Guizhou authorities took advantage of the students' anti-Japanese enthusiasm and mobilized the students to go to the border of Yunnan, Guizhou and Guizhou to propagate anti-Chiang anti-Japanese propaganda. Unfortunately, the Gui authorities soon reached a compromise with Chiang Kai-shek, and at the end of June, Guangxi Province decided to merge the teachers and colleges into Guangxi University and establish the School of Liberal Arts and Law of Guangxi University. In October, he moved to Guilin with the school headquarters and the provincial **.
In October 1941, Guangxi Province accepted the suggestion of Dr. Zeng Zuozhong, a professor of Southwest Associated University, and decided to rebuild Guangxi Normal College, and set up a preparatory office in November. In April 1942, it was renamed Guangxi Provincial Guilin Normal University, and the three specialized departments of education, history and geography, and physics and chemistry were changed into departments, and two departments of Chinese language and English were added in the same year. In August 1943, it was upgraded to the National Guilin Normal College, and the three specialized courses of Chinese, History, and Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry of Guangxi University were merged.
From June 1944 to January 1946, during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the National Guilin Normal University moved to Danzhou, Sanjiang County, Liuzhou, and Pingyue County, Guizhou Province (now Fuquan City) to resume classes. In June 1945, the graduation ceremony of the first undergraduate students was held in Binh Viet. In January 1946, teachers and students returned to Guilin one after another, and soon after, the Guilin authorities ordered the Guilin Normal College to move to Nanning and renamed it National Nanning Normal University.
In February 1950, the National Nanning Normal University was merged into Guangxi University, temporarily retaining the establishment of the Normal College and becoming the Normal College of Guangxi University. In the second half of the year, Guangxi University adjusted its faculties, abolished the establishment of the Normal College, and established the College of Culture and Education. In 1952, the College of Arts and Education stopped recruiting students, and added teacher training courses in five departments, including Chinese, history, mathematics, physics, and chemistry.
In 1953, Guangxi University was abolished, and the Guangxi Normal College was established on the basis of five specialties: Chinese, history, mathematics, physics and chemistry. In mid-November of that year, the name of the school was set as Guangxi Normal University. At the end of December of that year, the site of the school was transferred to the former site of the puppet Guangxi Provincial Government (Jingjiang Palace), which is today's Wangcheng Campus. After that, until 1962, a large number of archives of the former Guangxi University were retained in Guangxi Normal University for a long time.
In July 1954, the relocation was completed together with the Guangxi Provincial Teacher Training College, which was subsequently developed into the new Guangxi Normal University, and was renamed Nanning Normal University in 2018. A brief mention of it. The following year, the Guangxi Provincial Teacher Training College was abolished, and the whole was transferred to the management of the Guangxi Normal Institute, which was changed to a short-term training course for teachers.
In 1957, the Chinese School was abolished, and all the houses were taken over by the Guangxi Normal Institute. In 1960, Guangxi Normal Institute began to build a new campus in Maoershan, the planning area of this campus is 3,000 acres, the actual construction area is nearly 1,400 acres, in 1970 it was transferred to the National Institute of Electrical Appliances of the Ministry of Machinery, Guangxi Normal Institute was originally scheduled to be relocated to Maoershan The plan was also shelved. In August 1976, a branch was added to the former site of Vietnam 92 School in Sanlidian, the eastern suburb of Guilin, and part of the college was relocated, and this distribution was subsequently developed into today's Yucai Campus.
In 1979, the Ministry of Education decided for the first time to rebuild Guangxi Normal University into Guangxi Normal University, but this decision changed only half a month later, and the name of Guangxi Normal University did not actually change. In May 1983, it was officially renamed Guangxi Normal University, and at the same time, Nanning Normal University, which was developed from Guangxi Teachers Training College, was renamed Guangxi Normal University.
In the early 90s of the 20th century, Guangxi Normal University was proposed to move away from Wangcheng again. Of course, as we all know, Wangcheng is still one of the campuses of Guangxi Normal University today. In 2003, the school began the site selection of a new campus. In December 2005, the foundation stone of the Yanshan Campus in Yanshan Town, Yanshan District, Guilin City was officially laid, and it was put into use in October 2007. In February 2019, the Yanshan Campus became the main campus.
