Sansha has been a city for ten years, and foreigners are forbidden to enter, do you know the construction situation
Sansha City is the largest prefecture-level city in China, with its vast sea area and unique geographical location, it has become the focus of the first place since its establishment, and has attracted people's attention.
Sansha City was founded 10 years ago, how has it developed? Before understanding the changes in Sansha City, let's first understand the basic situation of Sansha City. Sansha City, one of the prefecture-level cities under the jurisdiction of Hainan Province, is located in the south-central part of the South China Sea, and its name derives from all the islands, reefs and sea areas of the three archipelagos of Xisha Islands, Zhongsha Islands and Nansha Islands under its main jurisdiction.
Sansha City, known as the largest prefecture-level city in China because of the area under its jurisdiction, has a total area of more than 2 million square kilometers, including 200,000 square kilometers of sea area and 20 square kilometers of land area.
Despite its vast jurisdiction, there are very few places where it can actually live because most of the area is sea. Therefore, in terms of land area, Sansha City is the smallest prefecture-level city in China.
This is Sansha City, the largest and the smallest in one.
Despite its small size, Sansha has a long history that no one else can match, making it one of the oldest cities in China. As early as the Shang Dynasty, the indigenous "Luo Yue people" along the coast of the South China Sea began to communicate with the Central Plains, opening their first interaction.
During the Zhou Dynasty, the natives along the South China Sea were even more vassal to the Zhou Dynasty and became one of the vassal states of the Zhou Dynasty. Since then, Chinese fishermen began to fish in the waters of the South China Sea, forming the earliest fishermen's groups, and discovering most of the South China Sea Islands.
They also recorded details of the islands in a manuscript, the Book of Routes, also known as the Book of Waterways.
The illustrations in the Book of Shifts were not circulated publicly, but were secretly passed down by some seafarers and fishermen as family treasures. It was only in modern times that these precious nautical charts were made public.
However, the management of the South China Sea was still indirect at the time, and there was no specific management body. After the establishment of the Qin Dynasty, Qin Shi Huang sent Tu Ju to the South China Sea region to pacify Baiyue, and only after the pacification of Baiyue did he formally establish the county-level management body.
The three counties established include Nanhai County, Guilin County and Xiang County. According to the Records of the First Emperor of the Qin Dynasty, the land under the jurisdiction of these three counties overlapped with the border areas of the modern Liangguang region and Southeast Asian countries.
The sea area of the Paracel Islands is mainly composed of the Dongsha Islands and the Paracel Islands, although they do not cover the entire South China Sea, but they are of great significance. This is the first time in the history of our country that part of the territory of the South China Sea region has been directly brought under the rule of the Central Plains Dynasty.
Since then, many dynasties such as the Han Dynasty, the Eastern Wu Dynasty, the Jin Dynasty, and the Southern Song Dynasty have developed and built Nanhai Zhudao, and at the same time incorporated many islands and reefs of the Nansha Islands into the territory of the Central Plains Dynasty.
Since the Sui and Tang dynasties, the Nansha Islands have set up Lingnan Jiedu envoys to manage and develop the entire Lingnan region in a unified manner, and the South China Sea region during this period is basically under the jurisdiction of the Central Plains Dynasty, and even the territory of some southeastern countries is now included in the jurisdiction.
These historic counties were the predecessors of the current Sansha City. Although Sansha City was established relatively late and its land area is not large, its historical heritage is still deep.
Sansha City, since the founding of the People's Republic of China, has always adhered to one belief: to recover the homeland ceded by foreign powers. In the face of provocations by other countries against our territory, we never compromise and protect our land, no matter how much effort we try.
Of the reclaimed lands, the South China Sea region is undoubtedly the most challenging. Due to the Qing Dynasty's policy of closing the country to the outside world, the development of the South China Sea was backward and did not pay enough attention to it.
So much so that many islands and reefs were forcibly occupied by Southeast Asian countries, and the Qing ** was helpless about it. This attitude of inaction has made Southeast Asian countries even more arrogant, and they have occupied hundreds of islands and reefs in a short period of time.
Therefore, after the founding of the People's Republic of China, it became extremely difficult for us to restore our sovereignty over the South China Sea. First, because there are many countries in Southeast Asia, the situation is complicated; Second, because of the Qing Dynasty's neglect of the South China Sea, our strength in the South China Sea lagged far behind that of other countries.
Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, China's national strength has increased rapidly, far surpassing other countries in Southeast Asia, and thus successfully recovering most of the territory of the South China Sea. However, there are still some islands and reefs that are complex and difficult to recover, such as Dye Sha Thanh Chau and Spratly Island, which are occupied by Vietnam; Thitu Island, occupied by the Philippines; Important islands and reefs, such as Dangun Reef, which Malaysia occupied, have not been recovered due to various reasons.
Even the islands and reefs that have been recovered, such as Mischief Reef, Yongju Reef, and Chigua Reef, are constantly under the watchful eye of Southeast Asian countries, which often invade the South China Sea in an attempt to occupy these islands and reefs.
In the last century, in order to protect its territory from further invasion by Southeast Asian countries, China sent troops to garrison the islands and reefs. However, the ambitions of the countries of Southeast Asia have not disappeared and they have repeatedly carried out provocative acts in a vain attempt to occupy our islands and reefs, such as the first and second Mischief Reef incidents.
In order to ensure the solid management of the South China Sea region, Japan made two major decisions in 2012. The first is to carry out land reclamation and build important islands and reefs to increase the number of our garrisons.
The second is the establishment of Sansha City, which is a direct management of the South China Sea area, responsible for the overall arrangement of various tasks in the South China Sea. Both decisions are aimed at better protecting China's rights and interests in the South China Sea and demonstrating our determination and strength.
It was built from Woody Island, which has a lot of land, and special communities and villages were set up to manage it, and it was only at this time that the South China Sea gradually stabilized, and the actions of Southeast Asian countries gradually disappeared.
And now, what about the development of Sansha City? Although it has been under construction for ten years, due to confidentiality and security considerations, some confidential places in Sansha City still do not allow idle people to enter, but visiting still needs to go through strict audits.
At present, our understanding of Sansha City is mainly concentrated on Yongxing Island, where the city is located. According to 2020 data, the permanent population of Sansha City is about 2,333 people, of which only 621 are registered residents.
In order to manage the entire Sansha City, ten communities were set up, such as the Mischief Community, which was responsible for handling all affairs around Mischief Island.
Although the total population of Sansha is not large, and it is not even as large as the number of ordinary universities, it has a well-developed infrastructure. For example, Woody Island, as the seat of Sansha City, has various infrastructure such as desalination plants, power plants, and communication facilities.
Today, the communities of Sansha City have basically achieved self-sufficiency, ensuring the basic living standard of all people, no longer relying on transport ships as in the last century, and not having to go hungry for days in special circumstances.
In addition, there is a military-civilian airstrip on Woody Island, which is only more than 800 meters away from the city, accounting for one-fifth of the entire area of Woody Island.
The construction of the airstrip in Sansha City not only helps to improve the traffic situation in the South China Sea, but also strengthens the jurisdiction of Sansha City over the South China Sea. For example, there are flights between Mischief Island and Woody Airport, which greatly improves the efficiency of the management of these islands.
In addition, tourists who want to visit Sansha City can directly take a plane to Woody Island or Mischief Island, avoiding long boat trips. Of course, this requires eligibility.
There are also schools and libraries on Woody Island to meet the educational needs of living in Sansha City. Supermarkets, hotels, and post offices are all available, and basically everything you can think of can be found, although the quantities are limited, because Woody Island is not large, and the scarcity of some supplies is understandable.
If you want to relax on Sansha Island, you can go to Internet cafes, cinemas, commercial streets and other places for entertainment, you might as well invite a few friends to go shopping, watch movies, and experience the entertainment life on the island.
In general, Sansha City is not much different from other cities, the only difference is that the land area is slightly smaller.
Although Sansha City is small, it reveals exquisite and reasonable planning everywhere, which is impressive. Have you ever had the pleasure of visiting this beautiful city? Feel free to share your experiences and opinions in the comment section.
