The current situation of the elderly in rural areas can be said to be suffering if they live a long time. In rural society, the problem of old-age care often becomes a headache. According to the rules, the daughter is not responsible for the pension after marriage, and does not inherit the inheritance of the elderly. The sons need to take turns to be responsible for the month's pension tasks. In fact, even if there are several sons, they may separate their parents and raise them separately, with each son supporting only one elderly. This is a prime example of this in my neighbor's house. The couple had two sons, each of whom was taken care of by one son. However, the eldest son, who was originally in charge of the adoptive mother, died just three years later, and it has been more than ten years since the second son took over the task of taking over the adoptive father.
In rural areas, the conditions for old-age care are very difficult. Elderly people often do not have the ability to enjoy high-quality elderly care services. The uncle has been supported by the second son for more than ten years, but in fact, he is in a state where the two sons are not responsible. The eldest son believes that he has fulfilled his responsibilities as a supporting mother and therefore cannot help his father anymore. The second son, on the other hand, felt that it was unfair to him that the eldest patronized his adoptive mother and neglected his father. This contradiction led to repeated coordination among the village cadres to no avail. At present, the uncle has reached the age of five guarantee households, and can be sent to a nursing home, and can get a subsidy of about 600 yuan per month. However, because the uncle has children and daughters, his family is not eligible for the subsidy for poor households.
The uncle originally had dinner with the second son's family. However, the second daughter-in-law felt that the uncle was too sloppy and did not pay attention to hygiene, so she proposed to give the uncle some rice and vegetables every month so that he could cook independently. Although the rice money arrives on time every month, the uncle can only go to the vegetable field to pick vegetables by himself, and he only has twenty or thirty yuan of pocket money every month, barely enough to buy meat and other daily necessities. The uncle himself said that he can still move on his own, so cooking every day also counts as a kind of exercise. Even on cold days, he was reluctant to go to the vegetable patch, so he took the fruit back and used it as a dish. This is very sad, they were originally gifts from their daughters when they came back to pay New Year's greetings, but they became a substitute in the uncle's life.
There are huge challenges and pressures on the issue of old-age care in rural areas. It is really sad to be supported by children separately like the uncle, facing loneliness and helplessness for a long time, and being disliked by others. In this case, even the concept of giving birth to children to prevent old age and provide for the elderly has become pale and weak. In comparison, living in a nursing home with peace of mind is a better option. In nursing homes, the elderly are not only taken care of, but also able to communicate and share their lives with other elderly people, making their later life more comfortable and interesting.
Interestingly, the uncle's two daughters don't seem to care much about his pension situation. Although they come home once a month to help with the quilts, laundry, cleaning and haircuts, the rest of the time they are busy with their grandchildren and have little time to spend with their uncle. This begs the question, how will they feel when they themselves are old and their children and grandchildren treat them the same way? This kind of indifference and bewilderment is really chilling.
Through this story, I deeply felt the difficulties and challenges of the elderly in rural areas. Although the concept of preventing old age is common in rural families, in fact, the issue of old-age care is a more complex issue. Problems such as the separation of children for the elderly, the disputes of personal interests, and the shackles of traditional concepts are intertwined, making the old people's old age difficult and helpless. In the process, the daughters' indifferent attitude towards their fathers is deeply regrettable, and it also makes people worry about the future prospects of retirement.
For this problem, in addition to social attention and policy improvement, it requires everyone's efforts and thinking. We should start small, care for the elders around us, and give them more companionship and love. At the same time, we should also guide the younger generation to establish a correct concept of old-age care through education and publicity, not only to understand the responsibility of having children, but also to appreciate the importance of family warmth and care.
Only with the joint efforts of the whole society can we effectively solve the problem of old-age care for the elderly in rural areas, so that every elderly person can enjoy a safe, healthy and happy life in their old age.
