Hello dear readers! Recently, the first issue of Archaeology magazine in 2024 has arrived as scheduled! In this month of ushering in the new year, let's open this academic journal full of rich content and start a journey of exploration full of wisdom and history!

First of all, there is the "Investigation and Excavation" column. The first excavation of the Paleolithic sites of Longdeng Mountain and Jinglongshan in Jiangle County, Fujian Province is particularly eye-catching. The Institute of Archaeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Fujian Provincial Institute of Archaeology and the Jiangle County Museum have joined forces to reveal various clues of prehistoric human life for us.

Immediately afterwards, we came to Jingmen City, Hubei Province, to see how the southern hill of the Qujialing site was excavated in 2016. Ladies and gentlemen, have you guessed the answer? That's right, it is the hard work of the Hubei Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, Jingmen Museum and Qujialing Site Protection Center that has revealed the secrets of this mysterious land for us. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to them!

Let's continue to delve into Sanyuan County in Shaanxi Province and pay attention to the Han Dynasty architectural ruins on the Tianjing Bank. This is an important discovery jointly completed by the School of Cultural Heritage of Northwest University, the Shaanxi Provincial Institute of Archaeology, and the Xianyang Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology. Between 2018 and 2019, they carried out a comprehensive excavation of the east and west platforms, and unearthed a large number of precious tiles, slab tiles, tube tiles, paving tiles and pottery. Let's think about it, how magnificent these ancient buildings built in the middle and late Western Han Dynasty are! You will definitely feel the charm of history!

Coming to our southwest, Chengdu is a vibrant city. There, the School of Archaeology and Museums of Sichuan University and the Chengdu Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology jointly presided over the excavation of Huangjiaguanshan M8 and Lijiashan M9. In 2018, they discovered two unique tombs, the north and south chambers, which were spliced together longitudinally, and that they had been destroyed during the construction process. In addition, rich pottery, bronze, jade, iron, stone, lacquer, lead, bone and other precious cultural relics have been found in the tomb. This is undoubtedly a major discovery of far-reaching significance for our understanding of the history of the Han Dynasty!

Finally, I would like to introduce the "Research and Exploration" column, in which Wu Tong replaces the original author. Through his careful and meticulous research, he has shown a unique insight into horizontal-grained pottery. In addition, Xia Wendong also brought his wonderful ** about the remains of the Gaochang Grottoes, including the "Gaochang style" that is loved by readers. In addition, in the column of "Archaeology and Science and Technology", the pottery origin analysis working group of Jinzhai site in Xiaoxian County, Anhui Province revealed the complex process of pottery production for us; The "Reading and Thinking" section is an in-depth discussion of the structure of the Yin Shang family.

In short, in this month of wisdom and history, Archaeology magazine will provide us with a rich feast of knowledge. Let us look forward to following its footsteps, exploring more unknowns, unveiling the veil of history, and appreciating the brilliant style of ancient civilizations! Stay tuned and we'll see you next time!
