In October 2015, the people of Dongcheng District and Beijing Capital Group jointly signed a strategic cooperation agreement on the comprehensive environmental management project of Dongsisan-8 historical and cultural blocks. It aims to relieve the core functions of the non-capital city, protect the style of the ancient capital, inherit the historical context, improve the conditions of people's livelihood, accelerate industrial renewal, and become a strong cultural area. At the same time, we will build a demonstration area for comprehensive environmental management of "Jing Hutong and New Ecology" in the East 43 to 8 Historical and Cultural Conservation Areas.
No. 77 Dongsi Sitiao used to be the office of the Dongsi Police Station, and in early 2017, the Dongsi Police Station moved out under the call for evacuation and retreat. As the first starting point for the comprehensive environmental management of Dongsi 3 to 8 Tiao, No. 77 Dongsi Sitiao Courtyard is positioned as the Dongsi Hutong Museum, which mainly carries the two core functions of historical and cultural display and cultural exchange in Dongsi District, and is a representative project combining cultural inheritance and community service on the cultural exploration road of Dongsi District.
There is a lot hidden in the small courtyard.
The overall building of the Dongsi Hutong Museum is a brick and wood structure, with a total of 28 rooms, and the 28 rooms mentioned here are not 28 rooms, but the name of "one" formed by the spacing between the columns in the house as a unit of measurement. The museum lasted more than 150 days of repair, retaining the original architectural form to the greatest extent, following the principle of repairing the old as before, repairing the courtyard with high standards of original craftsmanship, and repairing each dismantled component in accordance with the order number, the counterpoint number, and the ancient method.

The Sanjin courtyard of the Dongsi Hutong Museum is divided into five exhibition areas: the Dongsi Impression Exhibition Area, the Impression Washer Exhibition Area, the Cultural Visit Exhibition Area, the Cultural Exchange Living Room, and the Historical and Cultural Objects Exhibition Area.
The first to enter the courtyard.
The Dongsi Hutong Museum is particularly particular from the inside to the outside, and when you open the door, you will be greeted by a shadow wall. Five bats are carved around the word "Fu", which means "five blessings and good luck". Turn left and pass through the Moon Gate to enter the first courtyard. The first courtyard, also known as the outer courtyard, was a place for servants and outsiders to live and use in the past.
The second is to enter the courtyard.
After passing through the Hanging Flower Gate, you will enter the second courtyard. The red cloister is lined with pomegranate trees, under which a few goldfish swim in the water, reminiscent of the harmonious and chic summer scene of the old Beijing courtyard. The second courtyard used to be the place where the head of the family or the oldest person in the family lived in the family. Nowadays, the main room of the second courtyard and the wings on both sides are arranged as exhibition rooms.
The third enters the courtyard.
The third courtyard of the Dongsi Hutong Museum, that is, the main house and wing rooms in the backyard, are generally the places where the female dependents of the family live, and are now used as a multi-purpose hall.
The exhibition space is dotted with various rooms, showing the feelings of old Beijing in an all-round way. The Dongsi Impression Exhibition Area restores the dynamics of life in the Dongsi market through multi-**, and at the same time shows the alternation of the four seasons in the hutongs. The Impression Tile Gallery exhibition area is set around the "tile", the core element of Beijing courtyard architecture, and shows the development of cultural time and space through virtual and real design. The cultural exploration exhibition area mainly shows the time-honored brands in the hutongs, special snacks, the sounds of Beijing and the memories of children. The cultural exchange exhibition area is dominated by the documentary on the renovation of the Dongsi Hutong Museum, allowing visitors to intuitively experience the beautiful picture of the renovation and renewal of the courtyard. The historical and cultural exhibition area shows the long history and culture of the East Fourth District in the form of old objects, and truly reproduces the life of old Beijing.
There are also two works of art in the museum, "Moon Shadow" and "Starry Sky". The shape of "Moon Shadow" is refined according to the elements of the armillary sphere, which is a link across time and space, connecting the first courtyard and the second courtyard, and the shape is curved and bright like the moon, enlivening the entire courtyard space. The 28 constellations engraved on the sphere of "Xingtian" echo with the 28 constellations carved on the armillary sphere, and are connected with the "Moon Shadow" to form a main line of time and space, and its implication is to "build a bridge across time, space, nationality and culture in the courtyard of the national historical and cultural district".

Pursue the spirit of old Beijing.
As an excellent case of urban renewal and renovation of existing buildings in China, the Dongsi Hutong Museum has restored the courtyard pattern and architectural style in accordance with the principle of repairing the old as the old. On the basis of retaining the original pattern and appearance, the interior is modernized and the equipment is upgraded, and the integrated development of traditional culture and modern art is achieved. Since its operation, the Dongsi Hutong Museum has become a cultural landmark for the inheritance and exchange of Dongsi history and culture.
In recent years, the Dongsi Hutong Museum has held activities such as "Hutong Exhibition", "Hutong Intangible Cultural Heritage Workshop", "Hutong Art Market" and "Hutong Salon", and has also invited many intangible cultural heritage inheritors and craftsmen to settle in it, allowing people to experience Hutong life through multiple senses and immerse themselves in Beijing culture. Last year, the brand project "Hutong New Play" in cooperation with "East of the Forbidden City" was launched at the Dongsi Hutong Museum, and the children walked into the courtyard to experience the traditional culture of old Beijing, such as blowing candy people, shaking empty bamboos, painting kites, dried flower fans, painting rabbits, and painting brick carvings. In the future, the Dongsi Hutong Museum will also arrange rich activities such as intangible cultural heritage, traditional architecture, life aesthetics, and solar terms.
