Women spend about 3 to 6 hours a day on unpaid housework

According to a global survey, women spend between 3 and 6 hours a day on unpaid household chores, while men spend an average of 30 to 2 hours. The survey also noted that about 75 per cent of unpaid work globally is done by women.

This gender inequality in housework tends to start at an early age and worsen with age. For example, little girls as young as 5 years old usually do more household chores than their brothers.

In addition, such statistics often do not fully reflect women's full responsibility for caring for the family, such as caring for sleeping children or seriously ill adults while busy with other matters.

Currently, on average, women do about 61 per cent of household chores, and men rarely take on more personal, menial and emotionally draining tasks such as caring for the elderly.

This division of labor not only affects women's employment and income levels, but also affects their pension benefits in their later years. For example, women over the age of 60 usually receive half the pension income of men. In addition, excessive housework burdens and psychological stress may also have a negative impact on women's mental health.

In order to improve the situation, it was suggested that men and women should share the share of domestic work, and the community was called upon to pay more attention to the problem. The National Bureau of Statistics survey also shows that the average time spent on domestic work by women is 2 times that of men5 times, which directly affects the employment and career development of employees. Therefore, promoting gender equality and encouraging men to participate more in housework is an important way to achieve social equity and family harmony.
