Home is a reflection of an individual's heart, and as we usher in a new chapter in our lives, our understanding of home will evolve with it.

In this case, the owners are a retired middle-aged couple who share a spacious 330-storey home. As the years went by, they developed a clearer and purer attitude towards life, abandoning the pursuit of luxury and worldliness, and preferring the bright and refreshing style of simplicity, practicality and modernity.

The original structure consisted of a kitchen and two bathrooms, with no partition walls inside, and the various functional areas lacked clear boundaries, so it needed to be reasonably planned from scratch and renovated according to the actual living needs.

There are three load-bearing columns and transverse beams in the house structure, which bring certain constraints to the planning of the layout, and at the same time, sufficient lighting and ventilation need to be considered. Due to the advanced age of the homeowner, designers need to pay attention to the convenience of daily life and the ageing of each functional space.

Only the couple are permanently present, and the son and his family come home occasionally, so there are fewer visits. In order to meet the characteristics of the male owner's preference for reading, the design needs to fully consider the functional needs of the study, and an open design can be adopted.

Renovation highlights

1. New Z-shaped partition wall at home: Divide an independent entrance to increase the storage function and form a line of sight blocking.

2. Optimization of the location of the master bedroom: The master bedroom is located close to the entrance to facilitate the flow of the line, and is equipped with an independent cloakroom and bathroom to form a suite pattern.

3. Bedroom position adjustment: Since the sons are not often at home, the bedroom position is moved to a farther place.

4. Optimization of living room layout: The sofa adopts a double-backrest design, which is used in multiple directions to form a free-flowing moving line.

5. Open study design: Connected with the living room, the abruptness of the pipe is weakened by the suspended desk, and the flexibility of use is improved.

6. Multiple migration routes: Use the layout of sofas, desks and dining tables to enhance the convenience of life.

7. Kitchen space optimization: Choose the most efficient U-shaped countertop to adapt to a relatively small space.

8. Improvement of toilet layout: Adopt a three-separation layout to improve the convenience of use.

The designer divided the entryway, living room and master bedroom space through a new Z-shaped partition wall. The entrance cabinet is close to the entrance door as a shoe changing area, and the bottom of the design is suspended so that it is easy to sit down and change shoes. **Embedded light strips on the countertop create a sense of ritual going home.

The open shelves facing the entrance door are designed as display areas for the art objects that the owners love. The stainless steel plate is cleverly embedded in the curved cabinet, which is simple and elegant.

The overall design of the living room is mainly pure white, and the wall tiles are paved with Yashi white rock slabs, in order to avoid an overly cold atmosphere, the cream wall paint is cleverly integrated, so that the whole space is bright and maintains a sense of warmth.

Wood and black blend together to become a classic partner for white space. In the large flat floor, the designer fully considered the sense of space and adopted a number of design strategies:

The overall design without main lights does not occupy the floor height.

To the top of the concealed frame door design, reduce the presence of the door and stretch the height of the floor.

The slabs are close to the wall, eliminating baseboards and making the space more cohesive.

The lighting in the living room adopts magnetic track lights to make the light uniform and soft. The sofa is available without armrests and with a double backrest, and can be used in three directions, creating a free and comfortable home life.

The study in the window area is connected to the living room and has an open plan layout with a wide view. In order to alleviate the abruptness of the original pipes, the designer created a large area of cabinets along the wall of the study, adopting a top-to-ceiling and handleless shape, cleverly hiding the load-bearing columns.

The two load-bearing columns are cleverly integrated into the floating desk by design, forming part of the spatial form. The root chandelier adds a natural touch to the study. Bookcases with transparent glass doors not only enrich the visual variety, but also have the function of protecting against dust.

The only decoration in the study is a painting of the moon, and the simplicity of the picture complements the overall tone, and the color also echoes the black in the space.

Due to the lack of direct daylight in the dining room, a large area of white was used to enhance the brightness. Changhong glass doors were chosen for the kitchen and bathroom entrances, allowing natural light to radiate into the dining room.

In the dining room, the combination of white, wood and slate continues, and the central countertop is designed as a sideboard for small appliances. The dining table is made of thin white marble tops and designer dining chairs to express personality.

Compared with the living room, the kitchen is smaller, so the efficient U-shaped countertop is designed to meet the operation process of washing, cutting and frying, and the movement line is more convenient. Pure white cabinets make the space not look oppressive.

Changhong glass sliding doors are chosen for public bathrooms to reduce space occupation while maintaining lighting and privacy. The triple split design of the washbasin, shower and toilet area, as well as the large capacity mirror cabinet and base cabinet, provide practical functionality and ample storage space.

The second bedroom is designed with a curved wall to make the flow more fluid and natural. Although the bedroom is not large, the design of the two sides of the light makes the space more transparent and bright.

Located close to the entrance, the master bedroom is spacious and is the exclusive domain of the owner's couple. Inside, there is a separate toilet and cloakroom, forming a fully functional suite.

Considering the privacy of the master bedroom, the master bathroom is designed as a fully transparent glass room, with white walls, top, floor and floating basin cabinets, so that the whole space maintains the ultimate feeling of cleanness and freshness.

The balcony has excellent natural light, and is designed with massage chairs and small side tables, making it a relaxing area where you can soak up the sun and drink tea and enjoy the view.

The whole mansion shows the combination of luxury pattern and exquisite taste, washing away the lead and highlighting the magnificent bearing. Beneath the sleek exterior, there are many delicate details that are just as present in this home.
