In today's article, we will get straight to the point and talk about what you are most concerned about - what conditions are required for business study abroad applications?
In this article, I will pop out my own background, and I will talk to you about a lot of points about business, I hope it will be helpful to you in your business application.
Undergraduate:Domestic 985 Accounting ACCA.
Three-dimensional:105(28r 29l 25s 23w)+317(169+148+3.5)+3.62+ U.S. exchange GPA 375
Internship:A section of the bank, a section of the four majors, a section of the overseas finance department, a number of competitions.
Graduate Students:Finance, Simon School of Business, University of Rochester.
A qualifying GT score:
What is said "pass" instead of "excellent" here is because a qualified GT is enough for you to apply to a school that matches you, and the difference between a score of 100 and a score of 105 is not very large.
Don't feel that you have no hope because you don't have a TOEFL score of 100 or lower than the **erage on the official website, in fact, as long as you pass the line, there is really not much difference.
The same goes for GMAT GRE.
My own GRE was almost 10 points lower than my classmates, but I still got into the program.
I was surrounded by classmates who had just passed the GT score and even went to a better school than me.
Of course, this has to do with personal soft power, but what I want to express here is that don't be anxious, let alone be presumptuous, relax a point or two of the pursuit of "hard grades" throughout the application season, maintain a confident attitude, and believe that self-belief is the most important thing.
A clear understanding of yourself:
"I think it's a very strict requirement for students in American business schools.
What kind of career do you want to pursue in the next five or ten years? What kind of work do you want to do in what kind of company?
Such questions are very common in applications.
However, many domestic students may not have thought about this matter well, and due to the short working hours, they may not know the future development of a certain profession at all, nor do they know the skills required for this profession, so writing essays is particularly empty.
Therefore, everyone must think clearly about their future developmentI think it's important to be very clear, at least on the following points:
1.What industry do you want to do?
2.What position will you be in what company? How far do you want to be promoted in the future?
3.What is the day-to-day work of the position you want to do and what skills do you need?
4.What else do you need to learn to meet your future plans?
5.What are your thoughts on the future of the industry?
If you can know these five points, I believe you already have a deep understanding of yourself.
Beautiful rainbow after rain.
Choosing a school is simple and simple, and there are many ways to say it is complicated.
There are not many top-30 schools in MSFSo only a few need to be focused;
If you want to hit a prestigious school,ButThe GT and the background are not so powerful, so you need to find something less "hot"., but there are still valuable majors, which requires a lot of time and research.
I recommend that you look for some business-related programs under some schools of mathematics and liberal arts colleges, or even engineering schools or information systems schools, which are basically STEM, and employment in the United States or back to China will be very good.
However, it is important to note that you must be able to relate your experience to the major.
When I applied, I actually found a major in media+econ, which I liked very much, but because I really had no experience in media and public relations, I didn't write a perfect PS many times, and finally because of my own perfectionism, I couldn't apply for this major, which is also a small regret of mine.
Therefore, if you have your own dream school, it is best to start the research program early to broaden your experience, so that you will not be left with nothing to say when applying!
msfThe last five years have been a popular majorIn recent years, due to the rise of BA and metalworking, it has gradually become less popular, butIt remains one of the most competitive professions.
When choosing MSF,There are several important facts to recognize:
The financial outlook remainsContinuously evolving towards Quant and Fintechof, thereforeProgramming skills are very importantMajor colleges and universities are also developing towards quant, and these days, you can't mix up programming anymore.
The second isThe prospects for finance majors to study in the United States are not optimisticTherefore, you need to be very willing to communicate with peopleInternational students are also expected to have excellent grades and hard skills.
Third, choiceOnce you are not admitted to top programs such as MIT SLOAN or CBS's MSMF, you may only be able to choose the second echelon of WUSTL, UR, BC, etc.
There are fewer buffer schools in the middle.
If you especially want to go to a prestigious university, you can consider applying for MSF with a number of other related majors.
This part of the online application is actually the easiest part of the application, because you only need to prepare the materials, fill in and write!
It is recommended that you do an excel**to record your account password and application progress, submission time and interview time, etc., so that you can clearly control the progress.
Here I feel that I have two experiences of my own:
Preparing both JPG and PDF files and organizing the application materials for each program according to the school will improve a lot of efficiency.
The second is to do a good job in advance of the documents required by various schools (yes, yes, it is WES), starting from my year, WES has to pass through the student information network, and the processing speed has been ten times slower, so be sure to do it in advance so as not to miss the round of application! Many schools will send you to the next round if you don't pay in this round.
In addition, one of the things I personally like about filling in the net is that I basically don't need to use my brain, occasionally drink a milk tea in the interval between reviewing the GRE, write **, and by the way, dream that I have been admitted to this school and then secretly refresh in my heart hahaha.
There are generally two types of interviews:
One isInterview Interview,This kind of need to make an appointment to chat with the interviewer in advance, which is generally more uncontrollable and requires some improvisational elements.
The other isRecorded when applying online**,Respond to the questions in school, so you can write your answers in advance and prepare them for practice.
I'm in every timeBefore the interview, I will check the interview experience shared by each school student on the InternetDuring the first interview, I carefully wrote the answers to each question, but later found that I couldn't memorize it at all. And you have to revise your own answers according to the characteristics of each school, not to mention how much work you do.
Later, I focused on breaking down several of my own stories, for example, when I was an intern at Deloitte, I found that there was a problem with the client's bill, and after communication, I helped the project team to make up for this risk point.
You will find that after many interviews, you can quickly give answers to impromptu questions because you have already prepared them.
In addition, we should also remind everyone that although everyone is generally required to dress for the interview, it is not necessary to be overly serious, and the interviewer will be impressed by the appropriate relaxation and relaxation.
Americans generally like to "small talk" before the interview, ask where your home is, what the weather is, have you traveled, etc.
I remember when I was interviewing you, I talked to the interviewer about my high school experience of doing environmental projects in the United States, and I said that I thought the United States was so funny, and the school pulled us into a forest to teach us fire and archery, and I overtook my friend at the last arrow, and I was super excited!
Then the interviewer was also amused by me, and I was not nervous anymore, and the more I chatted, the more hilarious I became, and I chatted for more than half an hour.
When I finally received my offer, the interviewer sent me an email with congrats, hoping that I would have more happy memories in the United States in the future.
The last point is to be yourselfNaturally, you should talk about your own ideals and future plans, don't think that you are quite a CEO and that it is unrealistic to start a company, in the eyes of admissions officers, that may be your very confident and ambitious side as a future business leader.
The school's infosession will be very considerate to organize all kinds of information for you to consult.
Finally, I would like to share with you a few of my short stories, mainly to help you better plan your future, relieve the psychological pressure when applying, and at the same time let you know the future study abroad life in advance.
Story1 About the selection of internships
First of all, there is no need to say much about the standardized test, everyone takes the test early and finishes it early, but you don't have to worry too much about the score. I'm going to focus on some of them hereQuestions about internship options: Try a lot.
As an undergraduate accounting student, the bank finance department + four major audit internships are basically the standard for our professional students, but I didn't know what I wanted to do in the future when I applied for the internship, and my first two internships were carried out with the general trend.
However, I have always been interested in training in different industries, and finally through an overseas internship in the summer of my junior year, I decided that my preferred direction is risk management.
However, it does not mean that my first two internships are useless, because through careful analysis, I found that during the audit internship, I liked to do the analytical review of the account very much to help the project confirm the risk threshold; During my internship at the bank, I was also very concerned about the creditworthiness of my clients.
Therefore, when I was writing for PS, my career development was very clear, and my career interests were cultivated step by step, so that admissions officers could just see my growth and my interest in this field, rather than my own fictitious career plan.
Story2 Anxiety is inevitable
As I said at the beginning, "don't let anxiety defeat you" and believe that you can go to good projects.
When I did my first application (JHU), I was very nervous about time planning because I didn't have experience, so I didn't prepare well for the interview, which caused my brain to crash when answering questions, and I didn't perform well.
After the end, I was very frustrated because I felt that I had not planned my application time properly, so I applied to many guaranteed schools because I was scared.
In the end, these guaranteed schools also admitted me, but I was so worried about the application fee because I would not go if I was admitted at all.
I think it's because of my anxiety that I want to have a lot of guaranteed schools as my safety options, but it's not really necessary.
It turns out that my level is completely selectable among the top 30 schools, and the 50 or 60 schools are of little use to me.
Therefore, I hope that you will be rational and rational when applying, spend less unnecessary application fees, and please sprint boldly for good projects.
Story3 Step out of your comfort zone
Luocun is really a very quiet city, and like other "big villages" in the United States, no car equals no legs. I think it's this kind of life that makes you pursue academics.
The teachers in the finance department are basically bigwigs in the academic world. But even in a city like Luo Village,As a business school student, it is also necessary to strive to reach out and broaden one's interpersonal relationships.
Many students may not be comfortable with networking, and I am constantly learning, but the school has prepared a lot of info sessions and workshops for us to help us adapt to job hunting and social life in the United States as soon as possible.
Slowly, I started to get used to small talk with people (a big improvement was that I started to have more fun with the uber drivers, haha), and I started to try to ask people for more career advice.
One story that stuck with me was that one day our school invited some Boston MBA alumni to give a lecture and asked for formal attire to attend, and I found that I was not wearing formal attire, but my home was too far away and I didn't want to take the bus back.
I was torn apart, and then I started to hold back, thinking that even if I met these people, they wouldn't recommend me for a position, and I didn't want to work at Boston in the future, so why should I go?
Actually, I just backed down and made excuses for myself. After the last psychological struggle, I went home and changed into my formal clothes and rushed to the workshop.
During the lecture, I was very nervous about what topic I had to talk to the alumni and whether they would think I was naïve.
After that, I plucked up the courage to start a chat with an alumnus who was doing private equity, and I asked him about helping clients analyze liquidity and credit risk, and then I extended it to the projects I had worked on.
The whole conversation went on very smoothly.
Of course, I didn't forget to connect with his LinkedIn. But the story didn't end very well, I contacted this alumnus on LinkedIn about three or four times, and he never replied to me.
But this experience still helped me a lot, because for the first time, I overcame my psychological barrier, and I also expressed what I wanted to say, and I knew that all I needed to do was to persevere and continue to meet more people.
Therefore, I hope that no matter when applying or in the future study and work, everyone can step out of their comfort zone and become a better version of themselves!
