"Global 985 Selection! China's 5 hopes to be selected, and Zhejiang University has great potential! "!
Some time ago, I saw an interesting topic: there are 39985 universities in China, if the world selects 39985 universities, which universities will be selected? How many can there be in China?
Of course, it is impossible for us to agree on the same criteria, and everyone has their own criteria for school choice. In the absence of criteria, there is only one readily available data**, and that is the four international rankings, each with its own focus, but taken together to reflect the overall strength of each school to some extent (regardless of size).
In this article, we will analyse which universities around the world are in the top 39 or shortlist (top 50 in the rest of the world). How are Chinese universities performing?

Rankings of the top 4 institutions.
The Global University Rankings are based on data from 4 main rankings and are for reference only (the top 50 of the Global University Rankings are longer** and are therefore placed at the end of the article). If there are any omissions, please correct them yourself (institutions that are not in the ARWU top 100 are not included in the ranking, as the rankings after the 100th are not broken down, but are listed as a range, so they cannot be distinguished).
Of course, there are some of the world's top colleges and universities that cannot be ranked because of their size, such as the University of California, San Francisco, the École Normale Supérieure de Paris, the Karolinska Institutet, etc. But it is undeniable that they are all the best universities in the world.
Of the top 39: 20 in the United States, 7 in the United Kingdom, 2 each in Canada, Australia, Switzerland, China and Singapore, and 1 each in Japan and Germany.
Since the difference between 35-50 points is minimal, the Big Four rankings change from year to year. Institutions at the top of the queue usually change very little, but institutions at the bottom of the queue can sometimes fluctuate greatly. Zhejiang University, for example, is ranked 93rd on USNews, which is significantly lower than the other lists. If normalcy returns, these anomalous college lists will most likely replace the top 39 institutions.

40th-50th institutions: China and Australia add 3 substitutes each. France added two places, Canada and Germany added one each.
Of the top 39 countries, the United States alone accounts for 50%, the United Kingdom for 7%, and other countries for 1-2%.
In the top 50, the United States remains dominant, followed by the United Kingdom. But China and Australia have risen to five places and are starting to catch up with the UK.
Chinese institutions. While the economy is booming, China's universities have also grown rapidly over the past 20 years.
Tsinghua University and Peking University are ranked 19th and 21st in the world, respectively, and are well ahead of the top 39. At the current rate of development, Tsinghua University and Peking University should be among the top 10 in the world within 10 years.
There are three other Chinese universities in the 40-50 bracket: the University of Hong Kong, Zhejiang University, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Hong Kong's top three rankings have actually dropped slightly in recent years, especially on the previously dominant QS and THE's lists. About a decade ago, Hong Kong's three schools were ranked ahead of Tsinghua and Peking University on the QS list, but now the gap is widening. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the Chinese University of Hong Kong are very low in the academic rankings of the Asian Universities Alliance. In terms of potential, HK3 may not be as good as BGI 5 in the future.
The African continent attaches great importance to education and has the second largest economy in the world, so it is willing to invest huge sums of money in education.
Zhejiang University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University: In a number of indicators, they have entered the top three in the competition ranking. The two universities have a complete range of arts, science, engineering, medicine, and agriculture, and belong to the global development of institutions, and they have a certain scale advantage in the ranking.
In 2011, there were 191 young people in Zhejiang University, 124 people were handed in, and now the number of students in Zhejiang University has reached about 50, especially the progress of Zhejiang University is very great. The discipline layout of the two schools has been finalized, and the next step is to continue to strengthen. The onslaught of the world's top 39 schools remains a great opportunity.
Nanjing University: The current ranking suffers due to the lack of strong engineering and medical support.
Nanyang Technological University currently has a campus in Suzhou to create 5 new engineering-based clusters with a long-term plan of 10,000 to 20,000 people.
On February 2, Nanjing University and Suzhou City signed the "Memorandum of Cooperation on Accelerating the Construction and Development of Suzhou Campus". Suzhou said that it will strengthen service guarantee in an all-round way to help NTU Suzhou campus be completed as soon as possible"Chinese characteristics, Nanda style"of world-class university campuses.
At the meeting, the unveiling ceremony of the National Key Laboratory and Technology of Spin Chips of Nanjing University, the Institute of Atomic Manufacturing of Nanjing University, the School of Energy and Resources of Nanjing University and the School of Frontier Science of Nanjing University were held.
At present, the Suzhou campus has one State Key Laboratory, six colleges (Intelligent Science and Technology, Intelligent Software and Engineering, Integrated Circuits, Energy and Resources, Frontier Science, Digital Economy and Management), nine research institutes and three research centers.

If the Suzhou campus can be upgraded as soon as possible, with high-quality professors, and the number of new engineering master's and doctoral students can be increased, NTU's ranking will skyrocket. The Suzhou campus can be said to be the core of future construction, with great potential.
Fudan University of Technology: Similar to the situation of Korean universities, the University of Science and Technology is committed to basic disciplines, and the science department has now reached Level 2, and it is impossible to quickly build new engineering or medicine, and there is limited room for improvement in the rankings, so the University of Science and Technology does not pay attention to the ranking of Polytechnic University.
Although Fudan is stronger in medicine than NTU, it is weaker in engineering, resulting in a small difference in the rankings between Zhejiang University and Shanghai Jiaotong University (Zhejiang University is ranked by more than 20 places in ARWU and USNew). Fudan has also embarked on the construction of a new engineering college, which is being launched"Shannon Project"Twenty-four years later, four innovative schools were inaugurated, namely Integrated Circuits and Micro-Nano Electronics, Computing and Intelligence, Biomedical Engineering and Technology, and Intelligent Robotics and Advanced Technology, with the focus on building an informatization discipline group.
However, the large-scale development of Fudan new engineering needs the support of the new campus, the current Zhangjiang campus layout of integrated circuits and software, but the campus area is only 300 acres, the current news from the Qingpu campus is nothing, compared with the University of South China has 1600 acres of comprehensive construction of 5 new engineering Suzhou campus, the infrastructure is somewhat different.
Analysis and recommendations.
With the development of China's economy, universities have also entered the fast lane of development, and scientific research achievements continue to emerge, supporting the continuous progress of China's science and technology.
In the top four, Tsinghua University in Beijing has entered and stabilized at the top of the world's leading universities. It is believed that in the next 10 years, several Chinese universities ranked in the top 5 and top 3 in Hong Kong, especially the top 5 Chinese universities, will have the opportunity to enter the top 30 of the world's leading universities.
Huawei is currently the top candidate level, and these are all universities at the same level, but with different disciplines and strengths. Which university to choose is entirely a matter of personal preference and career planning.
