Furniture products and household seats need to pass the EU CE certification when they are exported to the EU, and the corresponding CE certification standard for household seats is EN 12520-2015, that is, the strength, durability and safety of furniture are required for household seats. The EU has formulated different standards for seat products for different purposes, users of different ages, and different use sites to restrict seat products entering the EU. The CE certification standard EN 12520 for household seats is not applicable to other types of seats, such as EN 581 for outdoor seats, EN 14988 for children's high chairs, EN 1335 for commercial furniture, etc.

Furniture products can be divided into the following categories:

1 Household.

EN 12520:2015 Household furniture. Seat class. Mechanical and structural safety requirements.

EN 1022:2018 Household furniture. Seat class. Stability requirements.

EN 1728:2012 Household furniture. Seat class. Strength and durability test requirements and methods.

2 Outdoor classes.

EN 581-1:2017 Outdoor furniture. Camping, office and home seating and tables, general safety requirements.

EN 581-2:2015 Outdoor furniture. Camping, office and home seating and tables. Machinery safety requirements and seat test methods.

3 Commercial class.

EN 1335-1: 2020 Commercial furniture. Office chairs. Size. Size requirements;

EN 1335-2: 2018 Commercial furniture. Office chairs. safety requirements;

EN 1335-3: 2009 Commercial furniture. Office chairs. Safety performance test methods.

1. Home seats: EN 12520

Scope of application: all kinds of household seats for ** use; It does not include the durability requirements of rubber wheels, tilting mechanism and height adjustment mechanism.

EN12520 Safety Requirements:

1 Sides and corners.

All parts accessible to the user in normal use must not have burrs, sharp edges, sharp points (tears), and no open nozzles (fingers can enter).

2 Shear the extrusion point.

It should be avoided as much as possible, and if it cannot be avoided, the following requirements should be met:

Must not be driven by a power mechanism (e.g. a spring) on the furniture

It must not be driven by involuntary movements caused by the user's own weight.

It should not be caused by the user's normal use actions (such as raising and lowering the seat, adjusting the back of the seat, etc.).

3 Stability (EN1022: 2018).

When the back of the chair is applied 155 N, the chair will not roll back, and if a vertical force of 600 N is applied in front of the footrest, the stool will not roll forward.

4 Structural Strength and Fatigue Requirements (EN1728: 2012).

2. Outdoor seats: EN 581

EN 581-1 Scope of application:

Camping, home and commercial outdoor seating and tables.

In addition to the removable upholstery and the furniture that is permanently fixed, the safety requirements are required.

1 Sides and corners.

2 Outwardly accessible openings

3 Outwardly accessible shear points and moving parts

EN581-2 Scope of application:

Mechanical safety requirements for camping, home and commercial outdoor seating.

Not suitable for outdoor furniture under strict commercial conditions.

Not suitable for removable soft cases and coverings.

Not suitable for permanently fixed furniture and road furniture.

3. Office chair: EN 1335

Scope of application: The EN 1335 standard applies to all types of office chairs, including but not limited to height-adjustable, on wheels and without wheels. This standard does not apply to children's furniture and home furniture.

The main content of the EN 1335 standard:

1.Structural requirements: including stability, strength and durability, etc.

2.Material requirements: including the quality and environmental performance of wood, metal, plastic and other materials.

3.Mechanical performance requirements: including the function and performance of pulleys, locking devices, handrails and other parts.

4.Label and instruction manual requirements: including product name, model number, manufacturer information, instructions for use, etc.
