The Hongqi Canal, affectionately known as the "artificial heavenly river" by the majority of people, is the eighth wonder of the world. In order to build this great project that is beneficial to the country and the people, a total of 81 martyrs died bravely.
And Wu Zutai, as a designer, he is the founder of the "Two Wonders of New China", and he is also the first person among the 81 martyrs to sacrifice his life for a foreign country.
Wu Zutai, a young man who dedicated his youth and blood to the Red Flag Canal, his name is forever engraved in the hearts of the people of Linzhou. His story was told over and over again, and each time it deeply touched the hearts of the listeners.
Hongqi Canal, in 1958, Linxian County was faced with water problems, and ** launched the Namgukdong Reservoir Project. A hot-blooded young man took the initiative to ask for help, hoping to exert his technical ability in the Linxian Water Conservancy Bureau.
He graduated from the Yellow River Water Conservancy School in Henan Province, full of passion and high spirits, that is Wu Zutai. At that time, he was only 25 years old and had just spent the prime of his youth.
However, he chose to devote his young life to the construction of the Red Flag Canal, and interpreted the spirit of youth without regrets with practical actions.
He is knowledgeable, personable, and has an enviable ** job and a fiancée, but he resolutely decided to abandon it all and go to the remote Linxian County to make his own efforts for the water conservancy project of the motherland.
Because he knows too well what it is like to be dehydrated. When he was seven years old, he walked the streets with his parents and made a living selling water. Wu Zutai is well aware of the value of water, so he chose hydraulic engineering as his university major, hoping to use what he has learned to help more people and regions get rid of water shortages one day.
Despite being mentally prepared, Mrs. Wu still underestimated the pressure of work. As a rare senior technician, he undertakes heavy engineering tasks. However, at that time, he had no experience to learn from his predecessors, and everything could only be explored by himself.
In order to build the Namguk-dong Reservoir, he personally climbed the cliff and inspected the soil and rocky texture. Even on the first day of the Lunar New Year, he did not rest, but immediately rushed to the Sanmenxia Water Conservancy Project of the Yellow River, which was under construction, hoping to get inspiration from it.
Goh's efforts were not in vain, not only did he survive three failures to build the Namgukdong Reservoir extremely solid, but he also built a solid dam up to 83 meters high without any steel or cement, using only clay and rockfill asphalt.
Today, the dam of Namgok-dong Reservoir is still rock solid. In 1959, the state launched a project to divert water into the forest, which later became the Hongqi Canal Project. At this critical moment, Wu Zutai did not hesitate to take over the important task and led his basic team to start field surveys.
Due to the huge amount of work on the Hongqi Canal, the total length is expected to be about 706 kilometers and passing through many rugged mountains, so the survey work is particularly difficult and arduous. There were two main technical problems to be solved in the Hongqi Canal: first, the original design was to divert water from Cuijiaguai Village, Shicheng Commune, Pingshun County, Shanxi Province to Tombouling, Rencun Commune, Linxian County, but the average slope of the two places was not enough to allow the water to flow on its own, so Wu Zutai needed to find a way to make the canal water flow according to the mountain; Second, the local geology is complex, and the mountains and rivers are blended, so it is necessary to ensure that the canal water can flow and avoid being polluted by river water or special mountain rocks.
In order to solve these problems, Wu Zutai personally led a team to go deep into Taihang Mountain, climb the cliffs, and there was only a hemp rope to maintain his life.
In the era of scarcity of materials, Wu Zutai relied on wisdom and perseverance to create a measuring tool suitable for use on the cliff, called "water duck". He held a basin of water in his hand and hung it on the edge of the cliff, in which he placed an empty bowl and a straight stick.
This simple device is his measuring instrument, which uses the principle of three points and one line instead of the detection of the level. In more than three months, Wu Zutai and his team climbed more than 500 peaks, waded through dozens of rivers, and overcame various difficulties to finally complete the design drawings.
When he walked out of the mountain and handed over the drawings to the construction workers, he could no longer see the appearance of a technician. At that time, Yang Gui, secretary of the county party committee of Linxian County, Henan, held Wu Zutai's hand tightly and cried silently.
In the follow-up construction, Mrs. Wu always ate and lived with the workers, stuck to the front-line construction site, and constantly revised the blueprint according to the actual situation.
In the construction of the water conservancy project in the first section of Qingnian Cave, Wu Zutai originally planned to use the method of excavating a nullah around the mountain, but in the field project, he found that this method was a large amount of work and difficult to construct.
So, according to the material of the rock, he boldly changed the design and used the method of digging a tunnel to let the tunnel pass through the cliff. This decision amazed the locals, who praised Wu Zu for his courage to lead the dragon king by the nose across the mountain.
Another famous design of Wu Zutai is the "hollow dam". After visiting the elderly in a nearby mountain village, he obtained the actual geological and hydrological materials of the local river and scientifically designed this unique dam according to the local environment.
He made the dam hollow, so that the canal water flowed through the center of the dam and the river overflowed from the top of the dam, which perfectly solved the problem of the intersection of canal water and river water. Wu Zutai devoted all her energy to water conservancy construction, and even almost delayed her life's major event.
However, his efforts and innovations have not only brought tangible benefits to the local area, but also left a strong mark on the field of water conservancy design.
In the Spring Festival of 1959, Wu Zutai and his fiancée Bo Huizhen held a simple wedding at the construction site. However, after the wedding, the first.
After four or five days, Mrs. Wu went back to work and promised to come back to visit his wife when the time was free.
However, he did not expect that this would become a farewell. Only more than 100 days after getting married, Bo Huizhen was unfortunately killed on the railway to save a child, leaving regrets for this beautiful love.
Bo Huizhen's selflessness and tenacity made Wu Zutai love her even more, and her love is like that landscape, eternal and unchanging.
Wu Zutai fell into great grief, how could he not accept that his young and beautiful wife had left him forever in such a way. She was only 21 years old and was a light in his life.
Originally, he hoped to bury his wife in his hometown of Yuanyang, but the line selection and measurement of the Hongqi Canal was at a critical moment, so he could only bury his wife in her hometown Qi County in a hurry.
He turned his grief into motivation, worked harder, and fought almost sleeplessly on the front line of the construction of the Red Flag Canal. However, when Wu Zutai pinned all his hopes on Hongqiqu, who was like his own child, fate ruthlessly took his life.
But the splendor and spirit of his life will live on forever. On March 28, 1960, Wu Zutai's life was fixed on this day, but his life forever illuminated history.
27-year-old Wu Zutai was about to have dinner when he was informed that there was a crack in the roof of the Wangjiazhuang tunnel, so he immediately put down his rice bowl and went to check it with his co-workers. On the way, I also met Dean Li Maode, and after a brief exchange, we entered the tunnel together.
However, 10 minutes later, the tunnel suddenly collapsed. When the bad news came, Yang Gui cried bitterly.
Wu Zutai, the master of the construction of the Hongqi Canal, has made outstanding contributions to the cause of water conservancy. The news of his death caused a great shock in the local area, and the workers of the Hongqi Canal were all moved.
As a foreigner, Wu Zutai made great efforts to lead the water of the Turbidity River to the depths of the Taihang Mountains with great enthusiasm and firm faith.
This aqueduct is known as the "Heavenly River", which is the result of Wu Zutai's hard work and sweat. The loss of Wu Zutai is deeply saddened, but his spirit and dedication will always be remembered.
The reason why Wu Zutai is deeply loved by the local people is because of his spirit of selfless dedication and his work style of going deep among the masses. He is truly committed to solving the problem of water shortage for the people in Linxian County and along the coast, who are suffering from drought, even at the cost of his life.
He knew that in that era of backward conditions, the only way to accomplish this feat was to rely on the people. His firm belief influenced the construction of the Hongqi Canal, and he never wavered no matter how difficult it was.
He can always study solutions to problems, not be discouraged by the lack of engineering technology, skillfully use the advantages of geography and people, and never give up hope, which is the working principle he has always adhered to.
Because of his outstanding contribution to the Hongqi Canal project, the Linxian County Party Committee decided to posthumously recognize Wu Zutai as a full member of the Communist Party of China.
Wu Zutai, a brother-in-law of a public security officer who left home for the construction of the Namgudong Dam and died in the line of duty. His family was also in trouble, and his wife died the year after his death, leaving his parents and widowed sister to live together.
When Wu Zutai helped Ling home, his parents were so sad that they mistakenly identified Liu Hesuo, who was about his age, for him. Liu Hesuo immediately knelt down and hugged Wu Zutai's mother, determined to fulfill his filial piety in place of Wu Zutai and let his parents spend their old age in peace.
Although Wu Zutai's body has left the world, his spirit has been preserved forever. His alma mater, the Yellow River Water Conservancy School in Henan, erected a statue in his honor.
The white statue stands on the campus, just like those sages, touching generations of water conservancy students with his deeds. Although Wu Zutai's life is short, his spirit will always live in people's hearts, he is a real hero, and his deeds will always be praised by people.
Wu Zutai, a compulsory course for students of the Yellow River Water Conservancy Institute, has his introduction in the school history museum. He sacrificed for the people of Linxian County, and now the people of his hometown will come to pay tribute every Qingming and winter solstice, and flowers are constantly in front of the grave.
And the people of Linxian County will never forget him, just as Zhang Maijiang, a special model worker who repairs canals, said: "A foreigner has made great contributions to Linxian County, and no one can forget Wu Zutai." ”
His deeds were told on the Hundred Schools' Forum, and the narrator Li Lei was also moved by his spirit. Wu Zutai fulfilled his wish before his death, and the coffin of his wife Bo Huizhen was finally with him.
Although Wu Zutai has left us, his spirit will never die. His deeds were included in the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television's "Ideal Shines on China" heroic model exhibition, and was known as the "most beautiful struggler" of the Red Flag Canal.
Today, the Wu Zutai Martyrs Memorial Hall has been built in Baimiao Village, and people have come to pay homage to him and listen to his story. His spirit lives on forever, inspiring future generations to keep moving forward.
As the famous saying goes, "A canal goes around the mountains, and the spirit moves the world." "Although Wu Zutai's life is short, his spirit will live on forever. Without him, we would not have the Red Flag Canal we have today.
He is the creator of the miracle of the Hongqi Canal, a cornerstone of the Hongqi Canal, a clear stream surging in the Hongqi Canal, and a wisp of fresh wind blowing in Linxian County. Wu Zutai, he put all his efforts into the work of repairing the canal, deep cultivation of the Taihang deep mountains, his spirit is an eternal monument, constantly releasing endless positive energy, from generation to generation to guide and protect the sons and daughters of the land of China.
