Xiao Jiang, a student at East China Normal University, is currently preparing to graduate**, which is a survey on the employment status of visually impaired college students. The survey found that for able-bodied people, a higher degree is directly proportional to the probability of finding a satisfactory job, while the opposite is true for visually impaired college students, with higher education making it more difficult to find a job. "After graduating from college, can I only go for a massage? This is not Xiao Jiang's confusion alone, how to achieve high-quality employment of disabled graduates "barrier-free" is attracting great attention from all parties.
According to data released by the China Disabled Persons' Federation, in 2023, there will be 31,843 disabled graduates from colleges and universities in China, a record high. More and more people with disabilities have gained the right and opportunity to receive higher education, but the issue of employment has always been an unavoidable challenge, especially for visually impaired college students. For example, Xiao Jiang, as a totally blind and disabled person, is finally about to graduate from university after making efforts that exceed the number of able-bodied people, and he is not very optimistic about the employment problems he is about to face, and the situation of several visually impaired seniors is not ideal.
Can't you find a job if you're visually impaired? In fact, it can be found, but it is more difficult to achieve high-quality employment. Since 2015, China's visually impaired people have taken the college entrance examination on a large scale for the first time, and Shanghai's related exploration started even earlier. The driving force that supports them to overcome various difficulties and persist in learning is "not resigning to fate". In the traditional concept, people with visual disabilities can only engage in some simple labor with low technical content, such as massage and massage, which has long been the most important position to solve the employment problems of this group. However, the younger generation of visually impaired people have a stronger need to integrate into society and realize their self-worth, they want to create more possibilities for their lives, and strive to study various majors, in order to change the stereotype of this group in society.
However, when visually impaired college students graduate from college, they will find that it is not easy for them to enter and adapt to the workplace. As long as you mark "visually impaired" in your resume, you often don't even have a chance to interview, and even if you break through layers of resistance and successfully join the company, it is difficult to adapt to the fierce competition in the workplace, and there are only a handful of cases that can persevere and make a difference. At this time, they are not willing to engage in massage and massage work, and they will even doubt the correctness of their choice to study back then. In addition to the visually impaired, such confusion is common among students with disabilities in colleges and universities.
In order to change the difficulty of finding employment for graduates with disabilities, last year, the China Disabled Persons' Federation focused on the employment of college graduates with disabilities, strengthened communication and cooperation with departments such as education, finance, taxation, universities, human resources and social security, and launched a series of measures such as employment guidance, job development, and "one-to-one" precise services. Last year, Shanghai also issued the "Shanghai Action Plan for Promoting the Employment of Persons with Disabilities (2023-2024)", which puts forward clear requirements for promoting fuller and higher-quality employment for persons with disabilities, jointly building and sharing the fruits of economic and social development, and gradually achieving common prosperity.
The development of science and technology and economic and social progress have further expanded the employment opportunities for college students with disabilities, and more disabled people can achieve higher-level and more flexible employment through artificial intelligence and the Internet. For example, although the human customer service industry, which is more engaged in human customer service, is now being gradually replaced by artificial intelligence, a new industry of data labeling has also been derived, allowing people with disabilities to engage in the work of training AI big data models. With the acceleration of scientific and technological progress, new types of jobs that can meet the needs of people with disabilities with higher quality employment are constantly emerging and yet to be explored.
The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China clearly stated that "improve the social security system and care service system for the disabled, and promote the all-round development of the cause of the disabled", which pointed out the direction of progress and provided fundamental guidance for the cause of the disabled in the new era and new journey. To achieve this goal, it is particularly important to ensure high-quality employment for persons with disabilities, and it requires the cooperation of all sectors of society. At the first level, top-level construction should be strengthened, and relevant policies should be formulated to encourage, support, and stipulate that enterprises and institutions should set up employment positions for persons with disabilities; At the social level, an atmosphere of caring for persons with disabilities and taking the initiative to accept special groups should be formedAs far as persons with disabilities themselves are concerned, they should also actively follow the trend of social development, enhance their competitiveness, and work together to promote the construction of "barrier-free" employment for persons with disabilities.
