What energy level standards should be used for elevator procurement?

Do elevators have energy rating certification? Can the energy level be used as a review factor in elevator procurement activities? In order to ensure the high efficiency and energy saving of the elevator, how does the purchaser set the technical parameters?

Elevator is the mechanical and electrical equipment that provides transportation services for personnel or goods, and China's annual elevator output, total amount in use and annual growth are the world's first. In 2023, the total number of elevators in use in China will exceed 10 million, and as an indispensable vertical transportation tool for multi-storey buildings, especially high-rise buildings and functional buildings, the number of elevators is still growing rapidly, which has become an important factor in building energy consumption management and carbon emission management.

At present, is there an energy level division for elevators in China? What criteria are used to evaluate it? How do purchasers apply energy levels?

What energy level certification is usually used for elevator procurement in China? At this stage, does China's elevator have energy level certification?

Yu Jiachen, director of the marketing department of Hangzhou Xiao Elevator, believes that the elevator has an energy rating assessment, and many procurement documents will take the elevator energy grade as a review factor, and basically the bidder's elevator will obtain TUV certification or ISO 25745 elevator energy level certification as a review factor.

Huang Siling, chief of the bidding section of Guangzhou Guangri Elevator Industry, said: "Regarding the elevator energy level, the elevator is generally certified according to the ISO 25745 or VDI 4707 standard for energy consumption, Class A is a conventional grade, and the escalator is certified according to the ISO 25745 standard, and the level can reach A+++ Kuaiyi Elevator Co., Ltd. Zhang Jie also believes that the elevator has an energy level, and the grade is Class A, which follows the VDI 4707 standard to identify."

So, what exactly is the ISO 25745 and VDI 4707 energy certification?

Li Xinlong, Secretary-General of the Inspection and Testing Committee of China Elevator Association, introduced that the ISO 25745 series of standards for the energy performance of elevators, escalators and moving walks is an elevator energy certification standard formulated by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and it is also an international standard for evaluating energy efficiency, providing a unified energy consumption definition standard and measurement means for escalator products. VDI 4707 is an elevator energy standard issued by the German Society of Engineers (VDI) and implemented in Europe in 2009. ISO 25745 and VDI 4707 have different test methods and evaluation of elevator energy performance, and they are two different evaluation systems, both of which have relevant requirements for elevator energy consumption classification.

The internationally accepted elevator energy classification standards are VDI 4707 Part 1 "Elevator Energy" and ISO 25745 "Energy Performance of Elevators, Escalators and Moving Walks" series of standards. At present, many elevator companies in China have obtained the A-level energy certificate corresponding to the VDI 4707 and ISO 25745 standards. Cao Zhichao, senior engineer of Hunan Special Equipment Inspection and Testing Research Institute, said.

In fact, China has elevator energy rating standards, but some purchasers, procurement agencies, businessmen or review experts have cognitive misunderstandings, resulting in elevator procurement activities, procurement documents often take ISO 25745 and VDI 4707 energy certification as a review factor. Industry experts say.

Does China have its own elevator energy standards? Does China have its own elevator energy level standards?

Cao Zhichao said that China's elevator energy level is based on GB T305591—2014 Energy Performance of Elevators, Escalators and Moving Walks Part 1: Energy Measurement and Verification, GB T305592—2017 "Energy Performance of Elevators, Escalators and Moving Walks Part 2: Energy Calculation and Classification of Elevators" and GB T 305593—2017 "Energy Performance of Elevators, Escalators and Moving Walks Part 3: Energy Calculation and Classification of Escalators and Moving Walks" provides energy classification methods for elevators, escalators and other elevators. The above standard equivalence is mainly borrowed from the ISO 25745 standard.

The above standard divides the elevator energy performance grade into A, B, C, D, E, F and G a total of 7 grades, each grade corresponds to the total energy consumption (W·H) of the elevator every day, A grade is the highest, the energy consumption is the smallest, and the others are decreasing step by step. The lower the energy performance level, the higher the energy consumption. Li Xinlong added, therefore, elevator manufacturers produce energy-saving, green, low-carbon elevators, with broad application prospects and significant economic benefits.
