In China's traditional folk culture, the thirteenth day of the first lunar month is a special day, the first death day of the new year, and the folk call it "Yang Gong Ji Day", also known as "Yang Gong Thirteen Taboo". Although it is a popular belief, it carries a wealth of folk tales and cultural customs.
The origin of "Yang Gong's Death Day" is varied, but it reflects the story of self-inadequacy, rhetoric, open-mindedness, ignorance of the height of the sky, and finally incurring disasters.
It is said that there was an old man surnamed Yang who had thirteen sons, and people respected him very much, so they called him "Yang Gong", which was also the honorific title for the old man in ancient times.
It is said that in the first month of the year, when people celebrate the New Year, many people come to Yang Gong's house to pay New Year's greetings to him. New Year's greetings with the elderly are a traditional custom in China, and it is also the inheritance of filial piety culture of respecting the elderly.
Yang Gong saw that everyone was greeting him for the New Year, but he was happy but he relied on the old to sell the old, accusing this of being inconsiderate, accusing that of misbehaving, as if only his thirteen sons were perfect and the dragon and phoenix among people.
Although others don't care about this statement, they are not happy in their hearts, after all, the first month is the beginning of the new year, and everyone wants to hear auspicious words and blessings and compliments. People revere him for his New Year's greetings because he is old, and most of them say flattering words, hoping that he will live a long life, but it is not that he deserves respect in everything.
Yang Gong was happy when he heard it, but when he was proud, he opened his mouth, I don't know how thick the sky is, and what to say to everyone, his longevity can be with the sky, even the Jade Emperor Laozi is difficult to compare with him, and the world is not rare, he has thirteen sons, even if he dies every month, twelve months a year, in the end, there will be a son.
This wild remark happened to be heard by the Inspector of the Heavenly Realm, and it spread to the Heavenly Court, angering the Jade Emperor. Therefore, the Jade Emperor ordered to start from the first month of the new year, and then take the life of one of his sons two days in advance every month. The day he received his first son was the thirteenth day of the first lunar month, and another one was accepted every 28 days thereafter.
It happened that in the leap seventh month of the lunar year that year, two July received the lives of his two sons, until the nineteenth day of the lunar month, Yang Gong's thirteen sons were all recovered, but when it came to the New Year, he was left alone, and the evening scene was very bleak.
Later, people said that what happened to Yang Gong was all due to his own big words, and at the same time, people also called these thirteen days an ominous day. Therefore, all happy events such as marriage, groundbreaking, and business opening do not need these thirteen days of the lunar calendar.
These 13 days of the year are: the first month of the lunar calendar.

In fact, this is also a kind of folk belief, the purpose is not to say that these 13 days are inauspicious, but mainly to warn people every month, to be low-key, to know and respect each other, not to exaggerate, self-indulgence, do not know the height of the sky, so as not to cause disaster.
Of course, this is also a local custom, our country is vast, there may be different sayings, I don't know if the place where you are is the same as said, welcome to leave a message!
