Amman, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- Jordanian King Abdullah II said during a meeting with visiting Palestinian Mahmoud Abbas in the capital Amman on Feb. 25 that Israel's continued attacks on the Gaza Strip during Ramadan will increase the risk of the conflict expanding.

According to a statement issued by the Jordanian royal palace on the same day, Abdullah II said during the meeting that every effort should be made to achieve an immediate and lasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and to protect innocent civilians. Jordan will continue to provide humanitarian and medical assistance to the population of the Gaza Strip.

Abdullah II said Jordan rejects any attempt to separate the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. The Arab States will continue to coordinate with a view to finding a just solution to the question of Palestine on the basis of the two-State solution.

During the meeting, Abbas said that Palestine and Jordan will continue to closely coordinate and consult on the Palestinian issue. He commended Jordan for its firm position, stressed the need to end the war in Gaza, the protection of civilians and called on the international community to shoulder its responsibility to protect the Palestinian people.
