Just after the Spring Festival in 1958, the Wuhan Municipal Public Security Bureau received a special report from the Ministry of Public Security: a special agent of the Mainland Research Institute of the Kuomintang Intelligence Bureau (name unknown), male, about 35 years old, from Hubei, with a thin figure, two tiger teeth inlaid with gold teeth, and a small black mole at the corner of his eye. The person has received ** training in Hong Kong and has now infiltrated Wuhan for activities.
On February 16, the Wuhan Municipal Public Security Bureau accidentally discovered that there was an entrant named Liu Renhui, whose basic characteristics such as age, place of origin, and body shape were similar to those in the Ministry of Public Security's report.
On this day, a mother and daughter came to a police station of the Wuhan Municipal Public Security Bureau, and the mother begged the police to take care of her son. When the mother said that her son's name was Liu Renhui, the police on duty immediately rushed to the police, and after asking in detail about some home addresses, physical characteristics, etc., the police promised to help with the work, and asked the mother and daughter to go back first and wait for news.
Subsequently, the situation was immediately reported to the Investigation Department of the Wuhan Municipal Public Security Bureau. The public security officers realized that the request of the mother and daughter of the Liu family had undoubtedly created excellent conditions for finding out about Liu Renhui's situation.
According to Liu's mother, her son has been wandering outside for more than ten years, and last year Liu Renhui suddenly came with a letter, saying that he is now in Hong Kong and has not been able to find a suitable job, where he is helpless, very lonely, and homesick, so he wants to go home. Mother Liu suddenly had news of her son, and when she saw that her son had the idea of going home, she was naturally very happy. So, Liu Renhui returned to his home at No. 4 Puti Lane in Hanyang in early February this year.
Only a few days after the good days of the family reunion, Liu Renhui made her sister Liu Ling angry. The reason is very simple, Liu Ling enthusiastically introduced to her brother what she had seen and heard in the new society, especially about the care of their mother and daughter after liberation, I thought that my brother would be grateful to the people, but he was not interested at all, and even repeatedly interrupted his sister's words, and told his sister about Hong Kong's bright lights and flowers.
Liu Ling said: "That is the life of the bourgeoisie, but we are the working class, and we want to live a happy life as masters of our own country." ”
Liu Renhui retorted: "If it weren't for the fact that it wasn't easy to mix over there, I wouldn't have returned to the mainland." I advise you not to put too much faith in Communist Party propaganda. ”
Liu Ling is a member of the Communist Party and has been educated by the party for many years, so she is naturally very disgusted by his words.
A few days later, another incident happened. Liu's mother wanted to take Liu Renhui to the police station to report her household registration, but Liu Renhui first said: "Don't worry, don't worry." But Liu's mother was an anxious child, and she urged him to report his household registration quickly for three days, and when he was in a hurry, Liu Renhui found all kinds of excuses, obviously evading.
These two things made Liu Ling suspicious, Liu's mother was a street activist, and she also had doubts about Liu Renhui's words, deeds and attitude. The mother and daughter discussed privately that Liu Renhui left home in 1946 to become a gendarme of the Kuomintang, and this time he came back suddenly, saying that he wanted to go home and live a good life, but he didn't look like that at all, would he.
They decided to "trick" him. So, after dinner one night, Liu's mother said to Liu Renhui coldly: "Hui'er, you weren't sent by the Kuomintang, right?" If you have any questions, I think you should explain it clearly to **, you can't hide it for long. ”
Liu Ling followed her mother's words and said, "I don't welcome Kuomintang spies either!" ”
Liu Renhui suddenly heard that his mother and sister did not say anything affectionate, he was stunned at first, and then said to his mother and sister with a sincere face: "Mom, sister, don't worry, I have been away for so many years, although I haven't been able to mix up, but I am definitely not the kind of person you say, you have to believe my words." ”
Liu Renhui said this, but in his mind, he was turning over the river and the sea, and the ideological struggle was extremely fierce.
Under the repeated urging of her mother and sister, Liu Renhui gave in: "Okay, if you let me go and surrender, then I will explain it to **, and let you know what kind of person I am." ”
On February 24, Liu Renhui, accompanied by her mother and sister, went to the investigation department of the Wuhan Municipal Public Security Bureau. Liu Renhui's words made Liu's mother and Liu Ling dumbfounded, and even the investigators of the Public Security Bureau who were present were stunned.
In 1948, I was transferred to the 200th Division of the 5th Army of the Kuomintang as a second lieutenant staff officer, and established a working relationship with Wang Yongsheng, a CCP ground worker of the 5th Army. Later, Wang Yongsheng and I lost contact when we retreated to Taiwan with the army. This time, I was dispatched back to the mainland by the Second Department of the Ministry of National Defense, and I did have a mission, but I will personally report to General Li Kenong on the specific contents. ”
When he saw that the public security officers, his mother, and sister were listening carefully to what he was saying, he lowered his voice and said: "My true identity is a high-level secret, and I hope that my relatives and friends present here will strictly keep it a secret ......."”
The Wuhan Municipal Public Security Bureau reported Liu Renhui's situation to the next level, and soon received instructions from the Ministry of Public Security: Liu Renhui should be sent to Beijing and the case should be transferred to the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau for trial. On February 25, investigators from the Wuhan Municipal Public Security Bureau accompanied Liu Renhui to Beijing, where he temporarily stayed at the Xinsheng Hotel outside Beijing's Qianmen.
The Investigation Department of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau wrote a report on the investigation of Liu Renhui by the Wuhan Municipal Public Security Bureau, and promptly sent the report to the Beijing Municipal Party Committee and the Ministry of Public Security. General Li Kenong soon saw the report.
After reading the report, General Li Kenong called Major Rong Zheng of the Intelligence Department of the General Staff: "When you come forward to talk to Liu Renhui, you must be careful and cautious, and you must treat and arrange it well. If he is really our ground worker, it is not easy to be in the enemy for so many years, even if he has lost contact with the organization, he has done the work for us. ”
The conversation between Major Rong Zheng and Liu Renhui quickly yielded results, and Liu Renhui's description was exactly the same as that reflected in the materials of the Wuhan Municipal Public Security Bureau.
However, Major Rong Zheng did not make a conclusion about Liu Renhui's identity because of this, he was very familiar with Li Kenong's work style and work habits, and then did a lot of investigation work, and visited the relevant in-situ workers who could be found, and the result was that there was no record of Wang Yongsheng and Liu Renhui in the sequence of ground workers in the corresponding line. Major Rong Zheng truthfully reported the investigation to General Li Kenong.
Is it an impostor? General Li Kenong was stunned, but he did not give up the slightest effort to find out the truth, and he said to Rong Zheng: "Tell the Ministry of Public Security and the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau about our investigation, and pay attention to the fact that our information may be missing, and we must not draw conclusions about it." ”
The Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau began a positive review of Liu Renhui.
After repeatedly explaining the policy, he also clearly told him that the underground workers of our party had a case to be checked, and persuaded him to give up his illusions. After Liu Renhui died for a few days, the ideological defense line was finally destroyed, and he admitted that he was a spy sent by the Kuomintang "Second Department of National Defense" and had no working relationship with the CCP's underground organization, and handed over two packets of ciphertext in Tibet.
With the approval of his superiors, the Investigation Department of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau arrested Liu Renhui on March 29 and continues to investigate the facts of his crime. After examination, Liu Renhui was not only a veritable Kuomintang spy, but also a spy who was loyal to the Kuomintang and committed numerous crimes.
Liu Renhui was originally a native of Hanyang County, Hubei Province, and later his family moved to No. 4, Puti Lane, Hanyang District, Wuhan City, and was admitted to the 12th Regiment of the Kuomintang Military Police in Hanyang as a military police officer when he was young. After Liu Renhui fled to Taiwan, he was admitted to the Intelligence School of the Kuomintang Ministry of National Defense, and after graduation, he was assigned to the prisoner of war interrogation team of the Second Department of the Kuomintang Ministry of National Defense, and served as a captain interrogator.
During this period, Liu Renhui devoted himself to the Kuomintang reactionaries, actively organized Taiwan training, and collected intelligence on China's coastal navy; Liu Renhui also collected information on airports, factories, and other strategic targets in Qingdao, Tianjin, Changchun, and other cities, and drew maps to provide to US intelligence agencies.
In 1956, due to the lack of strategic target intelligence, the "Strategic Target Military Task Group of the Second Department of the Ministry of National Defense" decided to send people to Hong Kong, Macao and other places to collect intelligence, and Liu Renhui recommended himself to take on this task.
He wrote a letter to his mother in Wuhan: "I am unemployed in Hong Kong and living in difficulty, and I intend to return to the mainland to participate in the construction of the motherland. ”
Two months later, Liu received a letter from his mother in Wuhan, expressing the hope that he would return to participate in the socialist construction of the motherland.
Liu Renhui did not return to Wuhan immediately, because he participated in the Kuomintang's "Ministry of National Defense Field Personnel Training Course." The training mainly includes intelligence gathering, tracking, detachment, camouflage secret letters, passwords, secret writing and other secret work methods.
In December 1957, Liu Renhui infiltrated Hong Kong as a smuggler and began to make preparations for infiltrating the mainland, including learning Cantonese and learning about the situation in Hong Kong, during which he wrote a letter to his mother in Wuhan.
On December 21, Xu Mou, a special agent of the "Sixth Group of the Second Department of the Ministry of National Defense", came to Hong Kong to convey to Liu Renhui the order of the Second Department of the Ministry of National Defense, his number is 5160, his position is the Wuhan Regional Intelligence Commissioner, and the activity fund is 881 Hong Kong dollars per month, and the main task is to collect military intelligence in the Wuhan area.
At 2 p.m. on February 12, 1958, Xu personally sent Liu Renhui to Luohu Station to monitor him on boarding the train.
When Liu Renhui returned to his mother and sister, he felt very comfortable, felt that the sky was higher and the ground was wider, like a bird out of the cage, and felt that the air on the mainland was very fresh and not as oppressive as in Taiwan. The face of the mainland is also very different from that of the Kuomintang propaganda.
The strong affection between his mother and sister also touched and warmed him, and his mind quietly began to waver.
He had the idea of surrendering to **, but he also knew that he had committed unforgivable crimes against the people before, and if he didn't have a reasonable excuse and couldn't find a reason to make amends, it would be difficult for him to get **leniency.
After several days of painstaking meditation, Liu Renhui cleverly conceived the "clever trick" of pretending to be a member of our party's ground workers, and in order to justify himself, he also carefully fabricated some characters and details.
As a result, Liu Renhui was "smart but was mistaken by cleverness", not only did he not be able to "justify himself", but he was full of loopholes, and finally could not escape the people's punishment of him according to law.
On May 31, 1960, after trial by the Beijing Intermediate People's Court, Liu Renhui was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve, and deprived of political rights for life.
Finally, I would like to note that the Ministry of Public Security report mentioned at the beginning of this article shows that the Kuomintang spy in the report has also been arrested by the Wuhan Municipal Public Security Department.
The Taiwanese spy and Liu Renhui only have something in common in age, body type and place of origin, but this led to Liu Renhui.
