Hun Yang and Li Sheng were the heroes of the Zhu Zhu Rebellion

In the middle of the Tang Dynasty, after the Anshi Rebellion subsided, warlords began to divide and rebel. The Tang Dynasty had been busy quelling various rebellions.

In 783 AD, Jingyuan's soldiers and horses were sent to fight the rebellion, but after arriving in Chang'an, they were dissatisfied with the unfair treatment and began to rebel. They robbed the capital of the property and elected Zhu Zhu, the chief lieutenant in Chang'an, as the emperor. The Tang emperor fled from Chang'an in a hurry and came to a temporary halt when he ran to Fengtian (present-day Qianxian County, Shaanxi Province). The rebels sent troops to surround Mukden City, and the situation was very critical. The emperor of the Tang Dynasty hurriedly issued an order to send troops from all over the country to relieve the siege. After hearing the news, Hun Yang hurriedly rushed to Fengtian with his clan disciples to rescue Emperor Tang Dezong.

Zhu Zhu's rebels attacked Fengtian City very fiercely, because once the city was broken and the Tang emperor was killed, the Tang Dynasty's army would lose its backbone, and the rebels could be said to have won more than half of the victory. Under the attack of the rebels, the city was almost lost on several occasions. Once, the rebels had already stormed the city gate, and it was Hun Yang and another general who fought bloodily all day, and finally blocked the city gate with several firewood and straw carts, so that the enemy could be repulsed. On another occasion, the rebels built huge chariots several stories high to attack the city, on which hundreds of soldiers could stand. This giant chariot frightened the soldiers and civilians defending the city. But Hun Xuan calmly told the emperor that he could dig a tunnel on the way of the chariot, and the heavy chariot would sink when it passed through the hollowed-out ground. So, Hun Yang cracked the enemy attack.

Faced with the situation of being trapped in the lonely city, Hun Yang was undaunted and launched a fierce and arduous battle with the rebels. After repeated defeats, the rebels did not give up. Because for them, the weather was cold, there was no food to eat in the city, the number of soldiers was small, and the defenders could not hold out for long.

The most dangerous time was when the enemy's arrows almost hit the emperor. The emperor and Hun Xuan hugged their heads and cried, saying goodbye, thinking that there was no hope of survival. Hun gathered the remaining soldiers in the city and encouraged them to persevere to the end. Hun Xuan's loyalty and bravery touched everyone.

Hun Xuan's persistence finally waited for reinforcements. The Shence Army led by Li Sheng rushed to the rescue from Hebei. Under the city of Mukden, the rebels were defeated by Li Sheng's army and fled back to Chang'an.

Li Sheng was determined to take advantage of the situation to attack Chang'an and eliminate Zhu Zhu. However, at this time, he found that Li Huaiguang's army was strong and ambitious, and he wanted to seize the opportunity to seize power in the Tang Dynasty, so he considered Li Sheng's army to be the biggest obstacle to his seizure of power. Li Huaiguang asked Tang Dezong for instructions, and under the pretext of operational needs, he asked Li Sheng's army to be under his unified command, and Tang Dezong agreed, and Li Huaiguang took control of Li Sheng's army.

After Li Huaiguang found that his army was strong, his ambitions swelled and he wanted to seize the power of the Tang Dynasty. He asked Tang Dezong for instructions, and under the pretext of operational needs, he demanded that Li Sheng's army be under his unified command. Tang Dezong agreed, and Li Huaiguang mastered Li Sheng's army. Li Huaiguang used the method of co-opting Li Sheng's soldiers to consolidate his power. But when his soldiers used the looted things to win over Li Sheng's soldiers, no one dared to take Li Sheng's soldiers. After Li Sheng discovered that Li Huaiguang was plotting against him, in order to prevent his army from being annexed, he stationed his troops elsewhere and reported Li Huaiguang's attempt to rebel to Tang Dezong. Tang Dezong tried his best to appease Li Huaiguang, but Li Huaiguang still chose to rebel. However, his soldiers were all impressed by Li Sheng and defected to Li Sheng one after another. Li Huaiguang betrayed his relatives and left, so he could only flee with a few cronies.

In the process of counterinsurgency, the famous Tang Dynasty general Ma Sui also played an important role. He led his army to defeat the reinforcements sent by Zhu Zhu, and besieged the city of Chang'an, eventually forcing Zhu Zhu to surrender. Stories of Chinese history and culture

This historical allusion tells us that in the face of adversity, we need to have a cool head and act decisively, but also to distinguish between right and wrong, and be wary of those around us not to be fooled by superficial friendliness.
