According to ABC, on January 31, Nikki Haley, the Republican candidate of the United States, made controversial remarks in an interview, saying that Texas "has the right to secede from the United States."

In an interview with the radio program "The Breakfast Club," Haley spoke to the host about the current situation in Texas, saying that if the people of Texas unanimously want to secede from the United States, they have the right to do so.

According to the show, Haley's view was: "If the people of the entire state say, 'We don't want to be part of America anymore,' and it was their own decision, then they have the right to do so." When asked whether he believed that the states of the United States had the right to secede from the Union of the United States of America, Haley replied in the affirmative: "Yes, I think they have the right to do so." However, Haley also said in a follow-up speech that, from a practical point of view, she does not believe that Texas will secede from the Union at this time.

ABC mentioned on February 1** that in 2010, when Haley was running for governor of South Carolina, she said that "all states in the United States have the right to secede from the Union", and she also said that this is a right granted to states by the U.S. Constitution. However, the report pointed out that Haley's statement did not match the truth, and in the 1869 "Texas v. White" case, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the Constitution did not allow states to unilaterally separate from the Union.
