Myanmar extended the national state of emergency for another six months

Myanmar media reported that on January 31, 2024, when the State Management Committee has been in power for three years, a meeting of the National Defense and Security Committee was held, and it was decided to extend the state of emergency for another six months.

Since February 1, 2021, Myanmar** Win Myint, State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, and some senior members of the National League for Democracy have been detained by the military.

Subsequently, Myanmar issued an order to declare a one-year state of emergency in accordance with the 2008 constitution, and the country's rights were transferred to the commander-in-chief of the National Defense Forces, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing. The Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces established the National Management Council, chaired by Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.

One year after the State Administration Council took office, Myanmar's National Defense and Security Council extended the state of emergency four times for six months. January 31, 2024 is the fifth time that the national state of emergency has been extended for six months.

The extension of the state of emergency is still in accordance with the Constitution's Regulation 425, because it is not yet a normal state, in order not to interrupt the work that needs to be continued and carried out, in accordance with the Constitution allows to shoulder responsibilities, the state of emergency is extended for another 6 months, and the Commander-in-Chief of the National Defense Forces reported to Wu Minh Sui.

At the meeting of the National Defense and Security Committee, the Commander-in-Chief of the National Defense Forces presented and discussed the situation of the outbreak of fighting in the areas of the People's Armed Forces, the development of drugs and the fight against cyber fraud, the ongoing work in the field of national development and education, the preparations for the holding of a free and fair census, the preparations for the national census, and the need to continue to work to promote peace and stability in the country and achieve a normal state.

In response to the information presented, Wu Mingsui informed the National Defense and Security Council that according to the current state of the country, it is necessary to continue to carry out work, and it is not yet normal, so the national state of emergency period was extended for another six months, and the meeting was concluded.

At the meeting of the National Defense and Security Committee held on January 31, 2024, U Minh Suo, Deputy Henry Ban Tiyu, Speaker of the Lok Sabha U Di Kun Ba, Commander-in-Chief of the National Defence Forces, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the National Defence Forces, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Army, Deputy General Sowin, Federal Minister of National Defence, General Tin Aung Sang, Federal Minister of the Ministry of the Interior, Lieutenant General Yabe, Federal Minister of the Ministry of Interior U Tan Sui, Federal Minister of Border Affairs, Lieutenant General Thontunnau, Secretary of the State Administration Commission, Lieutenant General Aung Lam Dui, and Joint Secretary Lieutenant General Yewin Oo, attended the meeting.
