Zhang Shouhua, born in 1937, passed away due to illness on September 14, 2023 at the age of 86. He is a retired teacher from the School of Radiation Medicine and Public Health of Soochow University, and has been teaching radiochemistry all his life. Because of his outstanding contributions in the field of education and charity, Mr. Zhang Shouhua is affectionately known as the "matchmaker for students" by teachers and students.
Personal Experience:
In August 1961, Zhang Shouhua graduated from the Department of Engineering Chemistry of Tsinghua University and became the first graduate of the department.
Later, he was assigned to work at the Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (the predecessor of the China Institute of Atomic Energy).
In 1975, he was transferred to Suzhou Medical College (the predecessor of Suzhou Medical College of Soochow University) as the director, lecturer and associate professor of the Department of Radiochemistry, and presided over the teaching of radiochemistry.
In 1996, witnessing a scene of a new student and his father pushing each other's living expenses due to financial difficulties inspired him to help the poor and help his students.
Since 1996, Zhang Shouhua has initiated and participated in the "One Gang One" student assistance activities, and set up the "Helping the Poor and Helping Students Struggle Award" and "Helping Others for Joy and Struggle Award".
