On January 9, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, a global leader in connected mobility, and ZF, a global leader in automotive systems and industrial technology, announced a collaboration on smart tire technology and vehicle motion control software.
ZF and Goodyear have partnered on smart tire technology and vehicle motion control software.
The collaboration brings Goodyear's Sightline tire intelligence technology to the CUBIX ecosystem developed by ZF. CUBIX is a scalable vehicle motion control software that coordinates the dynamics of the vehicle in all directions. This collaboration can provide more tire and road surface data to the chassis system, which will improve the driving experience and increase vehicle comfort, control and efficiency.
Martin Fischer, Director of the ZF Group
Martin Fischer, Director and Head of the Chassis Solutions business unit at ZF Friedrichshafen Friedrichshafen Solutions, said: "Goodyear's Sightline technology will enhance vehicle-to-road interaction, expand the scope and value of ZF's CUBIX software, and enable the software-defined vehicle era. By joining our ecosystem, customers will be able to customize and optimize their solutions in the field of vehicle motion and smart tires. ”
Now, through R&D, virtual** and real-world testing, ZF and Goodyear are increasing the potential of their vehicles in terms of performance and safety. Goodyear's Sightline solution enhances vehicle control by detecting partial tire slippage at an early stage and providing optimal speed recommendations, thereby reducing the risk of side skidding. When severe slippage is detected, the cubix software with intelligent tire data sends a corrective command to the chassis actuators to stabilize the body.
In addition, the synergy between Goodyear Sightline technology and CUBIX features improves the vehicle's responsiveness, making steering more direct and linear, while also improving cornering response, improving body stability, reducing the load on the controller and minimizing intrusive interventions.
"Tires are the only part of a vehicle that comes into contact with the road, and our leading data solutions will provide vital information to improve safety as the vehicle travels," said Chris Helsel, Goodyear's senior vice president and chief technology officer for global operations. The partnership with ZF demonstrates our ability to empower the next generation of mobility with tire intelligence, valuable data and high-end software. ”
The partnership won the 2024 CES Innovation Award in the "Automotive Technology and Frontier Mobility" category.
The integration of ZF Cubix and Goodyear Sightline technologies represents the latest in the development of innovative design and product features, and was awarded the 2024 CES Innovation Award in the category "Automotive Technology & Cutting-Edge Mobility".
CUBIX is ZF's first software-only product that systematically coordinates the dynamic control of the entire vehicle. The software controls the braking and steering systems, the vehicle's (semi-)active damping system, and other chassis and drive actuators. In addition, it has the obvious advantage that the software is compatible with a wide range of actuators, such as vibration damping, braking or rear-wheel steering, regardless of brand and design. As a result, OEMs have the flexibility to use the same control platform to match different vehicle models without the need for additional integration. In the future, software upgrades will be possible with the help of OTAs, and vehicles will not need to be in store.
Goodyear Sightline is the new smart tire technology that provides sensing solutions for tires, vehicles and road conditions. The technology provides feedback on tire condition, marking, coefficient of friction on the road surface and other information about tire characteristics. Goodyear Sightline technology will continue to provide this indispensable information to make fleets, vehicles and future autonomous driving systems safer and more efficient.
