On the evening of January 30, 2024, the Civil Aviation Administration of China announced that from February 1, the north-to-south flight bias of the M503 route will be cancelled, and the W route will be activated to fly from west to east. The Taiwan authorities and *** have expressed a strong **, saying that this will affect flight safety!
First of all, what is a route?
The route referred to here is the route flown by commercial aircraft, not the route of the ship. The so-called route is the "highway" of the aircraft, and you can only fly on the "highway" that is determined, and the plane that is not on the route can be shot down as a dangerous flight once it is misidentified.
And the "highway" can only be used at the entrances and exits, so let's take a look at the M503 route. The red in the middle of the map below is the M503 route, which has three "high-speed entrances and exits" along the east coast of China, namely Zhejiang Dongshan W121, Fuzhou W122, and Xiamen W123.
The original route was set up because the original A470 line was too busy, and in the 2010s, there were more than 1,200 daily flights between the Yangtze River Delta and the Pearl River Delta, and these planes caused severe congestion, with a punctuality rate of only 46%.
International Federation of Air Line Pilots'Association, ICAO) positions the A470 route as a black five star, which means that the route is very prone to flight congestion. Based on this situation, ICAO unanimously agreed that in 2015, Continental announced the entry into force of the M503 route.
At that time, Wanwan had a big opinion! After many negotiations, we reached a compromise with Wanwan:
The M503 route flies on the normal route from south to north, but moves 6 nautical miles west from north to south, that is, it must deviate from the center line of the strait as stated by Wanwan and move towards the mainland; There are also two entrances and exits of Fuzhou W122 and Xiamen W123, which can only be down but not up.
On the map drawn by Wanwan, there are also a few restricted navigation areas, for fear that our fighter planes will suddenly rush to Frog Island from these two "high-speed entrances" and scare the frogs.
In order to take care of the frogs' feelings, we not only sent them money to open a service trade, but also closed the two entrances, leaving only the exit.
Now the latest adjustment of the Civil Aviation Administration of China is actually to tell the frogs that there will be no special care in the future, and don't mention any "middle line of the strait" and "defense and security" to us.
