Do you still remember those heroes who "returned home in five years and made two bombs in ten years"? With their wisdom and sweat, they have created the glory of China.
These two sentences are not directed at others, but at Qian Xuesen, the winner of my country's "two bombs and one star" medal. When we mention Qian Lao, we often think of his outstanding contributions to the motherland, and perhaps of his happy marriage to his wife Jiang Ying, but few people know about his dedication to educating students.
He was a professor at the University of Science and Technology of China, where he was responsible for producing papers at the beginning of the semester in addition to teaching courses. Surprisingly, even the school's top students were bothered by Professor Chin's exams.
Despite Professor Chin's requirement for open-book exams, students still struggle to get good grades. So, how tricky are the exam questions taught by Professor Qian?
Qian Xuesen was born in Shanghai in 1911, but his roots are deeply rooted in Zhejiang. His father, Qian Junfu, was an expert in literature, history and education, and was the director of the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education, while his mother, Zhang Lanjuan, was a well-read and well-known noblewoman.
Qian Xuesen's family environment is very superior, and he has abundant resources when he grows up. In his parents' time, their concept of education was already very advanced, and they realized that education should not only be limited to textbooks, but should also focus on cultivating the all-round development of children.
He has been positive since he was a child, in addition to having a variety of skills such as calligraphy, sports, painting, etc., he can also lead among his peers. His parents, Father Qian, will instill in him a deep patriotism and love for the people, guide him on how to behave in the world, and inspire him to become a useful pillar of the country and society.
Qian's mother taught him to develop healthy living habits and let him know the etiquette of dealing with others. These teachings have benefited him a lot.
He once said that in the process of growing up, no matter what he studied, he was extremely focused, and he paid more attention to strategies and methods while working hard. At school, he has always been a top student in the eyes of teachers and classmates, especially in the field of science, and his performance is particularly prominent.
As the saying goes, "God rewards hard work." "Because of his diligence and talent, God favored him extraordinarily.
In 1929, at the age of 18, he was admitted to the National Chiao Tung University. Although the reputation of this university is not as good as some of the current famous universities, its history can be traced back to the current Shanghai Jiaotong University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Beijing Jiaotong University, Southwest Jiaotong University, and Hsinchu Jiaotong University, which can be called the top universities in China.
Therefore, Qian Xuesen's ability to be admitted to this university is enough to show that his strength is extraordinary.
He majored in mechanical engineering in college, and his knowledge level has improved significantly compared to his high school years, and his love for physics and mathematics is even greater. After graduating, he chose to continue his beloved studies in physics and mathematics.
In 1939, with his excellent grades and outstanding performance, he became a publicly-funded student at Tsinghua University and went to the United States for further study. There, he received not only a Ph.D. in aeronautics from Caltech, but also a Ph.D. in mathematics.
In the United States, he is also a high-profile aerospace research expert, and his mentor has high hopes for him. In 1947, he rose to prominence as a professor at the California Institute of Technology, earning him the admiration of American academics, a middle-aged scholar from China.
Rather than being complacent about his fame, he focused more on his research. At this time, he firmly believed that he should work hard for the country and hoped to use what he had learned to serve the motherland. In 1948, he had the idea of returning to China and began to prepare for it.
However, in 1950, he resigned from all his posts in the United States, but was obstructed by the United States and failed to return to China.
They did not hesitate to accuse him of crimes, just to keep his footsteps in the United States. As long as you want to add guilt, there is no excuse to find it. As a result, he was forced to spend five years in the United States.
The reason why the United States prevented him from returning to his homeland is also obvious. China's national conditions at that time were difficult, and top talents like Qian Xuesen were urgently needed to revitalize the country. However, the United States does not want to see China become strong, so it does everything in its power to prevent talents like Qian Xuesen from returning to their homeland.
Even so, he still unremittingly asked for the motherland's help through the deputies to the people's congress of our country, hoping to return to the embrace of the motherland at an early date.
With the joint efforts of the state and the individual, he finally succeeded in returning to his homeland in 1955. He left a promise to the United States: after returning to China, he would familiarize himself with the domestic situation as soon as possible, devote himself to his work with the fullest spirit, and establish the Chinese Academy of Sciences in the same year.
In addition, he is a professor at the University of Science and Technology of China.
He devoted himself to his work, just to make China no longer oppressed by others, and it took him a full decade from standing up to realizing the successful detonation of the "two bombs." His efforts have not been in vain, as evidenced by the many awards.
During his tenure as a professor at USTC, Qian Xuesen was responsible for the exam questions in the opening quarter. The students of the University of Science and Technology of China are all academically excellent students, and like Qian Xuesen, they have shown the characteristics of being a top student since childhood.
However, they encountered great difficulties in doing the old questions, and none of them even passed.
In an important entrance exam, there are only two questions. The first question is very basic, and you only need to understand the concept to get a full score of 30 points. The second problem is extremely challenging, requiring students to make an equation to solve the problem of a rocket being launched from Earth, orbiting the Sun and back to Earth.
For the top students of China University of Science and Technology, this question is deeply troubled by them. They started answering questions at 8 a.m. and continued until lunchtime, and no one was able to complete the entire paper.
In order to relieve the pressure of the classmates, Qian Lao asked them to go to rest first, and then come back after eating to continue answering. Despite this, some students pass out due to hypoglycemia.
At the dinner table, the students enthusiastically ** the solution to the second question, but they have never been able to find the correct answer. However, when it was time to collect the papers in the afternoon, Mr. Qian was surprised to find that most people only filled in the answers to the first question on the test papers.
Only a handful of people tried to solve the second question, and unfortunately they didn't get the correct answer. Most of the students only scored around 30 or 40 points, which is a bit cruel for the students of China University of Science and Technology.
In order to protect the enthusiasm of the students, Mr. Qian conducted a special score calculation, and the final result was that most of the students could reach the passing line.
Qian Xuesen's problem is not to put obstacles in the way of students or to show off his knowledge. His real intention is to tell the students that although the University of Science and Technology of China is a high point, it will never be the peak.
If you want to contribute to the progress of humanity, it is like a pipe dream to rely on existing knowledge without further learning. As Mr. Qian Xuesen said, his good intentions deserve the respect of the students.
He is a pillar of our country and a high-profile scientist in the world.
He is an outstanding figure who has made outstanding contributions to China, and his deeds and spirit will always inspire our generation.
