Some Shanghai netizens recently discovered that part of the embankment of Yangpu Park in Yangpu District was paved with tombstones, and almost mistook it for a cemetery.
Located in Shanghai's Yangpu District, Yangpu Park was opened in 1958 on the site of farmland, ponds, small residential villages and scattered cemeteries. The tombstones on the lake embankment are mainly located in the Yuhu Lake Scenic Area in the park, and it can be seen from the epitaphs that most of the owners of these tombstones were buried in the 20s of the last century. Some netizens who have been to the attraction said, I thought it was just a few pieces when I saw the introduction of others, but I never expected that the whole lake was around it, and I almost mistakenly thought that this was a cemetery.
In response to inquiries from internal media, the Yangpu Park management authorities said that they had not received a notice from the higher authorities to take protection, and that if the family of the deceased came to claim the tombstones and could provide sufficient evidence to prove their identity, the park would definitely return the tombstones to their original owners, but no one had come to claim them for many years.
The Greening Management Center of Yangpu District Greening and City Appearance Administration said that we were entangled in cultural relics at that time, and we contacted the Bureau of Culture and Tourism, and they also came to identify them, but they were not cultural relics. The Yangpu District Cultural Relics Management Department pointed out: At that time, there were relatively few stones for repairing Yangpu Park, so some ownerless tombstones were used as stones. We also considered collecting it, but it was just an ordinary tombstone, not an artifact. First, it is not historical, second, it is not scientific and artistic, and it has no educational significance. Regarding being criticized by the outside world for disrespecting the ancestors, the bureau said: I have communicated with the Greening Bureau to see what opportunities there are to replace them in the future. 」
