Cheng Cheng (pseudonym), a girl in her 30s, didn't expect that just because of her love for beauty, she dropped a mole on her face, and finally got melanoma and brain metastases.

Malignant melanoma is a rare tumor with a low incidence but very fatal. Fang Meiyu, director of the Department of Rare Diseases of Zhejiang Provincial Cancer Hospital, said.

Cheng Cheng ** is fair-skinned, but there is a mole on her face, she has always felt that it is very eye-catching, and after thinking about it, she went to a beauty salon and removed the mole. Unexpectedly, more than a year later, Cheng Cheng had headaches, nausea, vomiting and other conditions, and after several examinations in the hospital, it was found that it was melanoma brain metastasis. And the primary lesion is where she removed the mole.

In fact, I have encountered many similar patients in the outpatient clinic who felt that there was a mole somewhere on their body, which was not beautiful, so they removed it, and later found out that it was melanoma. Fang Meiyu said that malignant melanoma accounts for about 3% of all tumors, metastasis occurs early, and the mortality rate is high, it often appears at the corners of the mouth, eyes, hands and feet, etc., often with irregular edges, the size will increase, the color will change, and some are itchy or ** damaged, and there is water oozing, "Therefore, we generally do not recommend that you remove the moles on the body without authorization, especially those with high-risk factors." ”

Speaking of tumors, many people know about lung cancer, stomach cancer, breast cancer, in fact, there are some tumors with low incidence but high degree of malignancy, that is, rare tumors. Tumors with an incidence of less than 6 per 100,000 can be called "rare tumors". In addition to malignant melanoma, there are also salivary gland cancers, heart tumors, and tumors that tend to occur in adolescents, such as osteosarcoma and neuroblastoma. In Zhejiang Provincial Cancer Hospital, 6,000 rare cancer patients are treated every year.

Like soft tissue sarcoma, the incidence is about 1 in 100,000 and is more common in adolescents. Because at this age, muscles and bones are in the stage of vigorous growth and development, and some abnormal proliferation may occur during the rapid proliferation of cells. It can grow on all parts of the body. Most of them are asymptomatic in the early stages, and by the time they develop localized pain, they are often late. Fang Meiyu said that like all tumors, rare tumors should also be detected early, and from this point of view, the physical examination of adolescents is also very critical and necessary. ”

Fang Meiyu explained that patients with rare tumors often face more difficulties in the first place, "first of all, there are not many drugs that can be used, many of them are orphan drugs, and secondly, most of the drugs in rare tumors are not included in the medical insurance, and the burden of patients is relatively heavy." ”

In September this year, the list of rare diseases in China was expanded for the first time, and more than 20 rare tumors were included in the list. These include melanoma, neuroblastoma, renal clear cell sarcoma, etc. For this group, it is undoubtedly a source of hope.
