Salil Gupte, president of Boeing India and South Asia, welcomed the "Make in India" initiative and said New Delhi was moving from being one of the largest importers to developing its own platform.

He said Boeing is one of the OEMs that coordinates the most with India in this regard.

Guppte said that at the Indus X event held during the Raisina Dialogue 2024, a lot of the discussions revolved around co-development and co-production.

In an interview with ANI, Salil Gupt said: "A number of defense products are undergoing joint development ......Boeing decided to participate exclusively in these types of projects, because in defense, under the theme of 'self-reliance', India is moving from being one of the largest importers of products to developing its own platforms here. ”

Some of them will work exclusively with Indian companies, others with OEMs. Boeing has been one of the OEMs that coordinates the most with India. ”

Gupt said Boeing exports Rs 10,000 crore a year as part of the 'Make in India' initiative.

As part of the 'Make in India' initiative, we have already purchased Rs 10,000 crore annually from India. Now we see our new engineering centre in Bangalore as an opportunity to combine strong engineering capabilities with manufacturing capabilities to advance the Make in India initiative. ”

The president of Boeing India further stated that he expects more than 2,500 aircraft to enter India in the next 20 years.

In terms of civil aviation, we are seeing more than 2,500 aircraft entering India in the next 20 years, which means more than 10 aircraft entering India every month. Not only airplanes, but airlines are also rapidly evolving. Red ASA Airlines, one of the fastest-growing airlines in history, is now going international, with Air India placing a large number of orders last year to extend its wings to long-haul flights. ”

Gupt also reiterated U.S. Biden's remarks that the India-US relationship is "the most important relationship of the 21st century."
