Overview of the ME-PD20i Partial Discharge Detection and Positioning System

GIS (Gas Insulation Switchgear) is a gas-insulated, fully enclosed combined switchgear, which is very common in power grids and large substations. It assembles all kinds of switchgear in the power system in a closed metal shell, and then fills it with SF6 gas to achieve good insulation from the outside. Due to the high field strength within the GIS, partial discharge occurs during daily operation when there are some defects inside the device. Partial discharge is one of the main causes of insulation deterioration of GIS equipment, and it is also an important feature to describe the aging of GIS insulation. Through the detection and analysis of PD signals, it is possible to determine whether there is some kind of hidden insulation hazard inside the GIS. At present, various PD detection methods have been more and more widely used in GIS equipment. Partial discharge is a kind of pulse discharge, which will produce a series of physical phenomena and chemical changes such as light, sound, electrical and mechanical vibration in and around the power equipment. These physical and chemical changes that accompany partial discharge can provide detection signals for monitoring the internal insulation status of power equipment. According to the different detection principles and methods, the commonly used partial discharge detection methods include UHF method, ultrasonic method and high-frequency current method.

The ME-PD20I partial discharge detection and positioning system can detect live through electrical signals and ultrasonic signals, integrating UHF method, high-frequency current method and ultrasonic method, to determine whether there is a discharge fault in GIS, and complete accurate positioning.
