On the eve of the end of the first semester of the 2023 academic year, teaching salons were held in each of the seven university districts of Xuhui District. In the 7 teaching salons, teachers exchanged in-depth ideas on the design ideas, implementation experience and follow-up plans of the school's project-based learning plan around topics such as "design of driving problems", "construction of project-based learning paths", "evaluation and optimization" and "display and reflection".
In August 2023, the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission issued the "Guiding Opinions of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission on Implementing Project-based Learning to Promote the Reform of Compulsory Education Education Methods", urging all districts to strengthen teacher training and promote the normalization of project-based learning. Under this guidance, Xuhui District has made all-round arrangements for the promotion of project-based learning in the first semester of the 2023 academic year.
This semester, the Education Bureau organized a total of three special series of training activities for primary school teaching, which were organized by Gao'an Road No. 1 Primary School, Shanghai Experimental School Affiliated Primary School and Jianxiang Primary School, respectively, which demonstrated the practical exploration and wisdom of the pilot schools in promoting project-based learning in the early stage, provided practical action path reference and valuable practical experience for other schools, and had important theoretical and practical significance for the comprehensive implementation of project-based learning design and implementation in the region. In addition, the Primary School Affiliated to East China University of Science and Technology held a district project-based learning demonstration activity with the theme of "How to Transform Activities into Activity-based Project-based Learning" on December 22, 2023. During the event, Warren Primary School put forward a special report on "Born from Need, Towards Real Learning", and showed the practical cases of project-based learning, which provided a demonstration for other schools in the region to explore practical project-based learning.
On December 9, 2023, the 18th "Shaw Cup" Primary School Student Activity Ability Competition in Xuhui District was successfully held. With the theme of "Our Journey to Intangible Cultural Heritage", the competition guides students to understand, experience and disseminate intangible cultural heritage through project-based learning, and strengthens cultural identity. Fourth-grade students from 48 primary schools actively participated in the event, demonstrating their understanding and creativity of intangible cultural heritage by making WeChat tweets.
Through the survey, primary schools in Xuhui District organized a total of 156 project-based learning school-based trainings this semester, covering a variety of forms, including expert lectures and individual guidance, to help teachers improve their ability to implement project-based learning. The number of projects designed and implemented by each school has reached 258, and the number of projects implemented has reached 231, realizing the full coverage of project-based learning in primary schools in the district. The relevant person in charge of the District Education Bureau revealed that Xuhui District will publish "Exploration and Practice of Project-based Learning in Primary Schools in Xuhui District, Foreseeing New Learning" in 2024 to further summarize practical experience and provide guidance for the normalization of schools in the district. The District Education Bureau will also continue to implement the relevant document requirements of the Municipal Education Commission, promote project-based learning, and make unremitting efforts for the high-quality development of Xuhui education.
