How to open maya symmetry

Mondo Technology Updated on 2024-02-19

Symmetry is a magic sword in Maya's powerful software, allowing you to easily create mirrored models. Imagine that you are standing in front of a mirror, symmetrical left and right, and this wonderful experience is equally achievable in Maya. This feature is a great tool when you want to create a character, design a vehicle, or anything else that requires symmetry.

Let's explore how to launch this amazing feature in Maya: First, open Maya and import your favorite model. Next, select the Point Pen in the toolbox to select exactly the model you want to be symmetrical in the viewport. Then, lightly move your mouse to the menu bar, click on the "Modify" tab, and you'll see a glittering mountain of gems where mirrored gems shine. Click on it and a mysterious "Mirror" dialog will appear in front of you. Here you can decide which axis the model is symmetrical along (e.g., the fascinating x-axis). Once confirmed, click "OK" and the magic happens – your model seems to have passed the years and takes on a perfectly symmetrical posture.

Keep in mind that each symmetry is for the current selection. So, if you crave the symmetrical charm of other models, just select your favorite again and repeat the steps above.
