During the Liberation War, the Chinese People's Liberation Army blocked the operation of the Kuomintang army in the Tashan area of Liaoning Province. In the Liaoshen Campaign, Chiang Kai-shek formed the Eastern Advance Corps with 11 divisions to rush to the aid of Jinzhou. The Northeast Field Army of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) blocked the attack in the Tashan (now Huludao City, Liaoning Province) area with two columns (the 4th and 11th columns of the Northeast Field Army) and two independent divisions (the 4th and 6th independent divisions of the Jireliao Military Region). From October 10 to 15, 1948, the Fourth Column of the Northeast Field Army, under the command of Commander Wu Kehua and Political Commissar Mo Wenhua, successively repelled many attacks of the Eastern Advance Corps with the cooperation of the Navy and Air Force, killed, wounded and captured more than 6,600 enemies, and completed the blocking task with the coordination of friendly and neighboring troops to ensure the main force to conquer Jinzhou.

On September 12, 1948, the Liaoshen Campaign was launched, and the campaign plan was to first take Jinzhou, eliminate the defending enemy in Jinzhou, and close the southward escape route of the enemy in the northeast. In order to save the defeat in the Northeast, Chiang Kai-shek personally went out and ran between Beiping, Shenyang, and Huludao, dispatched troops, deployed the so-called "decisive battle in the Northeast", and formed 11 divisions of the Eastward Advance Corps, which rushed to aid Jinzhou from Jinxi and Huludao, in an attempt to use the "Jinzhou Hold Battle" to consume and exhaust the Northeast Field Army. [10] For this reason, the commander of the Northeast Field Army** and others studied the enemy situation and the pre-war situation in detail, and held that: "The enemy position in Jinxi extends to the east and southeast of Tashan in the north, and the enemy position in Jinzhou extends to the village near Songshan Street in the south, and the gap between the two Jinshan is only more than 30 li.

The Tashan Resistance Battle, which began on October 10 and ended on October 15, lasted for six days and six nights, and more than 6,600 enemy troops were killed, wounded and captured by the four columns of our army. The victory of the Tashan Resistance Battle ensured the victory of our army's main force in the battle to conquer Jinzhou. The daily battle damage data of the 4th column, including 319 people on the 10th, 563 people on the 11th, no data on the 12th, 1048 people on the 13th, 745 people on the 14th, and 470 people on the 15th, the total of the above is 3145 people.
