For the New Year s travel season, consider these sustainable modes of transportation!

According to a report released by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), by 2030, global carbon emissions from tourism and transportation are expected to increase from 15 percent in 20169.7 billion tonnes to 199.8 billion tons, accounting for 53%[1]。The Chinese New Year is also the peak of travel, and with the increase in environmental awareness, many travelers have become more thoughtful about the sustainability of travel and the impact of transportation on the environment.

Honeywell's range of industry solutions span a wide range of mobility modes and expand the possibilities of sustainable mobility, from more sustainable fuels and safer journeys to more efficient management that makes travel safer, healthier and more efficient.

High-speed and not high temperature - the cool secret of new energy vehicles

Self-driving travel is a popular mode of travel, and new energy vehicles are developing into the mainstream of the market. Over the past decade, low GWP HFO-1234YF refrigerant has proven to be a reliable and safe refrigerant. The HFO-1234YF is used by almost all major automakers worldwide. It provides effective and efficient cooling and heating for internal combustion engine vehicles, hybrid vehicles, and electric vehicles. Its performance range allows it to be used in both conventional air conditioning systems and newer EV heat pump systems.

In addition, Honeywell has designed sensors and switches specifically for electric vehicle applications with good stability and reliability. A variety of current sensors for battery and electronic control can provide high-precision and high-reliability performance, improve the accuracy of current monitoring, and then improve the accuracy of battery mileage; Thermal runaway sensors for battery management systems (BMS) can reliably detect battery anomalies, helping to create a safe battery system and keep people safe.

High-altitude and low-energy consumption - the transformation of traditional fuels

Many people prefer to choose efficient flying as a way to travel long distances. However, according to the Energy Transitions Commission, an aviation industry group, accounts for almost 3% of the world's human-generated carbon dioxide emissions. Without urgent action, this could rise to 22 per cent by 2050. The aviation industry is notoriously one of the "hard-to-decarbonize" industries. The aviation industry generates about 1 billion tonnes of carbon emissions every year, of which about 80% comes from jet fuel [2].

Honeywell UOP's Ecofining process technology is a technology used in major producers of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for commercial aviation. It uses waste oil, fat and grease conversion to produce Honeywell SAF that can be blended 1:1 with petroleum-based aviation fuel at scale for commercial use without any technical changes to the aircraft and meets all key flight specifications.

In addition to the optimization of aviation fuel feedstocks, the upgrade of the auxiliary power unit will add benefits to the aircraft in terms of both economy and environmental friendliness.

With the Honeywell 131 Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) Efficient Mode (HEM) upgrade, Airbus and Boeing narrow-body aircraft operators can achieve better aircraft fuel economy, including: a 1-2% improvement in fuel efficiency, which can save up to $9,000 per aircraft per year depending on operating conditions; and improvements in environmental emissions, reducing CO2 emissions by up to 22 metric tons per APU per year [3].

Efficient and safe – more scientific airport management

Airports are also often an important part of air travelers. Airports** are large, have long operating times, complex systems, and sometimes create an energy burden.

Honeywell has provided firefighting, security, environmental control and other solutions for more than 200 airports in China, fully ensuring airport construction and operation through accurate perception capabilities, excellent anti-interference capabilities, and flexible cross-system control capabilities, and easily coping with challenges such as large-scale, high-security, harsh environments and large-load energy consumption. Our IoT solutions enable airport facilities to operate in a connected manner with a user-friendly and secure control interface, and machine learning to improve operating time and save energy without sacrificing comfort.

Convenient and reassuring - the safety guard of daily travel

In addition to long-distance travel, intra-city transportation is also closely related to people's lives. As an emerging and mainstream mode of public transportation, the subway continues to increase its passenger flow. China has become the world's largest urban rail transit construction market, and its future development will be further improved towards the goals of scientific and technological innovation, safety, wisdom and green development. Honeywell has provided products and services to more than 220 rail transit lines in more than 40 cities in China, and is a trusted leader and professional service provider in the industry, from integration to expansion, from security and fire protection to environmental control, to meet the most challenging rail transit environments.

According to the needs of operations management, Honeywell is equipped with integrated solutions such as security, fire protection and information technology for the operation control center, platforms, machine rooms and depots. It also adopts "all-in-one design" to simplify and manage complex metro environments, which can work together or as independent systems, and provide real-time images and data collection and analysis of the overall operation.

Throughout the history of human development, technology has continued to change the way we travel. Whether on the road or at work, Honeywell wants to be a partner for a sustainable future. We have a decades-long tradition of helping our customers achieve their environmental and social goals through technological innovation, to achieve carbon neutrality in our operations and facilities by 2035, and to make the environment in which we work and live better and more sustainable.
