In 1973, the 10th National Congress of the Communist Party of China was about to be convened, and the Politburo meeting was also held in Beijing as scheduled, and the candidates for the chairman and vice chairman would also be determined at this meeting.
The chairmanship's position was undoubtedly unanimously elected, but there were some small differences in the selection of the vice-chairman.
The original vice chairmen were *** Wang Hongwen and Kang Sheng, and there was one last person left, ** wanted to hear the opinions of others, so he asked: ".Who will be the vice chairman?
Everyone looked at each other and did not speak.
In my opinion, it is better to choose one from the army.
After the chairman finished speaking, ** stood up with understanding and recommended a person:"I agree with the chairman, and I recommend Comrade Li Desheng as a candidate, who came from the army and is of the right age.
The chairman almost didn't hesitate too much, and immediately nodded in agreement, but Li Desheng, who participated in the meeting, was already in a cold sweat at this time.
Why did the chairman choose Li Desheng, and why did Li Desheng have such a reaction?
In 1973, the leaders of the major military regions gathered in Beijing to prepare to participate in the upcoming ** Politburo meeting, and for a time Beijing became extremely lively, and Li Desheng also received an invitation to participate in the Politburo meeting.
To a certain extent, this meeting will also determine the future direction of New China, because this meeting will re-determine the chairman, vice chairman, and other candidates, and make other personnel arrangements, so many people have been silently following this meeting.
As the commander of the military region, Li Desheng was naturally invited to participate in this important meeting, but she did not expect that this meeting would change the rest of his life.
The day before the Politburo meeting was convened as scheduled, the chairman personally convened the major leaders and held an informal meeting in Zhongnanhai.
At the meeting, there was no doubt about the chairmanship, and everyone agreed that the chairman should continue to be held by ***, after all, under his leadership, New China gradually developed and came to this day.
**But I don't know if it's okay, because his original plan was to set up an "advisory committee", with himself as the chairman of the advisory committee, and *** can be handed over to someone else.
But the others disagreed, and the chairman said helplessly: ".If you all don't agree, then I'll have to do my best.
After the chairmanship was decided, there was the vice-chairman, and there was no decision in anyone's mind as to who should be the vice-chairman, because the chairman had never expressed any attitude on the matter.
But in fact, before this meeting, when the chairman was at the residence of the Zhongnanhai swimming pool, he had discussed this matter with *** and others.
At that time, the chairman, like this meeting, asked directly to *** and others: ".Who do you think is the right person to be the vice-chairman?
** Understanding what the Chairman meant, he did not directly answer the Chairman's questions, but gave a detailed report on the preparations before the meeting and the work of some relevant personnel.
The chairman thought for a moment and then said, ".Enlai and Hongwen can be counted.
But the chairman, Comrade Wang Hongwen, he ......"I want to say something, as if I want to say something.
The chairman naturally understood what he meant, and he said: "Hong Wen has been a soldier, a farmer, and a worker, and he has work experience. ”
Kang Lao and Jian Ying are also counted. The chairman thought for a moment and said.
** is to take a pen and paper and carefully write down every decision of ***.
"But among the current candidates, there are young and old, but there are no winners, we should combine them. The chairman pondered for a moment and then continued.
The so-called "old, middle and young" are divided according to the age at that time, 40 years old and 60 years old are a boundary, ** and others belong to the elderly, but Wang Hongwen is a young person, the chairman means that there is still a lack of a middle-aged person between 40 and 60 years old to serve as a candidate for vice chairman.
Before *** could speak, the chairman made another request: ".Preferably from the army.
After speaking, the chairman turned his gaze to *** Naturally, he also understood, after all, there are not a few people who "covet" the position of vice chairman.
After thinking about it carefully, he recommended a person: "I agree with the chairman's opinion, I have a suitable candidate here, that is, Comrade Li Desheng, he is from the army, he is 57 years old this year, and he also has some local work experience, which is very suitable for the candidate of vice chairman." ”The chairman almost did not hesitate, and immediately nodded, ".Yes, I'll leave it to Comrade Li Desheng.
Li Desheng was also at the meeting, but he was not mentally prepared to serve as vice chairman, so he hurriedly got up and said: ".Chairman, my current qualifications and level are not enough, Comrade ** joined the party earlier than me, and I think he is more suitable to be the deputy chairman.
Many people are not familiar with the name Li Desheng, and they have not even heard of it, but in fact, Li Desheng is also an old comrade in the party.
Li Desheng was born in April 1916 in an inconspicuous mountain village in the Dabie Mountains, when he had no memory, he lost his mother, at the age of 8, in order to maintain the family's livelihood, Li Desheng did not go to a private school to study, but became a rich family's cattle herding baby.
At that time, the days were very difficult, and Li Desheng's childhood was also slowly grown up from hardships, and it is because of this that he officially joined the Communist Party of China at the age of 16 and began his own road of resistance.
The road to the revolution was also very difficult, he participated in many battles at a young age, and gradually grew from an ordinary soldier to a qualified fighter.
During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Li Desheng followed the Eighth Route Army and successively participated in the night attack on Yangming Fort and the establishment of an anti-Japanese base area.
In the War of Liberation, Li Desheng has become the brigade commander of the 17th Brigade of the 16th Column of the Shanxi-Hebei-Luyu Field Army.
He jumped into Dabie Mountain, launched a fierce battle with the enemy in the Central Plains, and successively captured the three places of Pipa Mountain, Zhenwu Mountain and Iron Buddha Temple, and captured the enemy's commander alive, became famous in one fell swoop, and also received the first award.
After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Li Desheng was not idle, but under the instructions of the first person, he led the army to the Korean battlefield to resist the US aggression.
Among them, the Battle of Shangganling, which shocked the whole world, also had Li Desheng's participation, but because he was not the main commander, there were not many records about him.
However, this still proves that Li Desheng has made tremendous contributions to the peace and stability of New China.
Li Desheng has experienced many battles in his life and has already become an outstanding general, and after the domestic situation gradually stabilized, Li Desheng is still active in his work.
When he was working in Anhui, he stabilized the situation in Anhui with a vigorous and resolute posture, and soon led Anhui on the right track of development.
In 1968, after the establishment of the Anhui Provincial Revolutionary Committee, Li Desheng was deservedly elected as the director of the Revolutionary Committee, and later became the first secretary of the Anhui Provincial Party Committee.
The first face-to-face conversation with Li Desheng was in 1968.
The 12th Plenary Session of the 8th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China opened in Beijing this year, and when Li Desheng's name was read out of the group list at the opening ceremony, he suddenly asked: ".Who is Li Desheng?
In fact, ** has heard of Li Desheng's name for a long time, but it has always been to the extent that he can't match his face.
Hear the Chair's questioning. Li Desheng hurriedly stood up and responded: ".Yes, Chairman, I am Li Desheng.
**Seeing this, he took the initiative to introduce two sentences: ".Comrade Li Desheng is now chairman of the Anhui Provincial Revolutionary Committee.
**It seems that he has heard of Li Desheng's work in Anhui for a long time, looking at him full of appreciation, and very kindly looking for his place of origin and age, and asked some questions about work, until he heard Li Desheng's reply, ** nodded with great satisfaction and let Li Desheng sit down.
In 1969, when Li Desheng went to Beijing for a meeting as an alternate member of the Politburo, he was named again and had a second conversation with ***.
And this time, it is obvious that the attitude shown by *** can be seen that he values Li Desheng very much.
Because of this, Li Desheng was also very surprised when he received a request for him to work in Beijing in late July.
Soon after, Li Desheng went to Beijing to take up his post and entered the Beijing Military Region to begin his work.
Li Desheng originally thought that he could work in **, which was already ***'s special favor for himself, but he didn't expect that the chairman would personally nominate him to run for vice chairman.
At the meeting, when Li Desheng learned the news, he was obviously more surprised than anyone else, after all, he had never thought of serving as vice chairman, and only hoped to be able to do his job with peace of mind.
What's more, in terms of qualifications, some comrades are richer than themselves, so Li Desheng took the initiative to recommend ***
** was originally sitting next to Li Desheng, and when he heard his words, ** hurriedly pulled Li Desheng's sleeve and asked him not to say it again.
Although the chairman was not familiar with Li Desheng, he had indeed heard of Li Desheng's achievements, and he also admired the young man's humble attitude, so he said: ".Comrade Li Desheng, since this important task has been entrusted to you, you just have to do it well.
Li Desheng had no choice but to nod and take over the important task.
On August 30, the day of the 10th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, Li Desheng was elected vice chairman of New China, reaching the peak of power in his life.
At this time, Li Desheng wore many hats, in addition to the status of vice president, he was also the minister of public security, the first secretary of the Hunan Provincial Party Committee, he single-handedly coordinated many affairs, and he was so busy that his feet did not touch the ground.
At this time, he still gave Li Desheng encouragement: "Comrade Li Desheng, just according to what the chairman said, just work boldly, don't have too many concerns." ”
Li Desheng gradually let go and began to work in **.
However, Li Desheng stayed in Beijing for only four months before he was transferred to the Shenyang Military Region, and Li Desheng's job transfer also set a precedent for the vice president of New China not to work in the capital.
Many people were curious about this, why the chairman did not keep Li Desheng in Beijing, but transferred him to the northeast region, but thinking that the chairman must have his intentions in doing so, no one asked.
In fact, because the situation in ** was a little turbulent at that time, ** sent him away for the purpose of protecting Li Desheng, and it turned out that ** and ***'s decisions were always forward-looking.
Although Li Desheng's work in the Shenyang Military Region was not carried out very smoothly, it was not affected too muchIn 1975, he personally rectified the army, and at this time, Li Desheng had served as the first secretary of the party committee of the Shenyang Military Region for more than a year, which shows that Li Desheng is still quite valued.
**The period after his death was the most turbulent period in New China.
At that time, under the instructions of *** and others, our country had all entered a state of first-level combat readiness, as if something was happening at any time.
As the leader of the army, Li Desheng naturally received instructions from his superiors, and for this reason, Li Desheng sat in charge on the night of his birthday, sticking to every move in all parts of the country, until the state of combat readiness was lifted, and Li Desheng's tense spirit for many days relaxed a little.
In 1980, Li Desheng returned to work and a few years later became a political commissar at the National Defense University.
In 1990, Li Desheng retired from his post and began his later life, and his income has left his job, but Li Desheng is still very concerned about the development of the party and the country.
In 2011, Li Desheng passed away in Beijing at the age of 96.
